Hey JJ...
Yes I have noticed the same problem - I have a slow connection, but it has been veeerrry slow on AR lately...hopefully we will find out why coz I tend to skip in from time to time when I take a 5 minute break from working...which just doesnt work if it takes 5 minutes to load a page...

AfricanHunterFortnerBee4n having the same experience lately and doing the same thing.
Has access to cable, DSL and telephone hookups. Same problem at times on all.

JJHACKI have a very powerful computer in my home and a High speed connection. Just about any website I visit can be scanned through almost as fast as I can click my mouse button. However it seems more and more frequently when I'm on this forum I can click on a thread and it will take a minute or two to open the page. Just about the time I decide to move to another thread or page it opens.
There have been countless times recently I have just left because the pages stall or will not open. Who else has noticed this on the AR forum? It cannot be my equipment as I have three computers and access this site from Hotels with high speed lines about 12 days a month or more. With three different computers, Two at my home and a laptop for travel all work with the same delays on the various high speed lines across the USA and Canada. They all seem to have the same issue with the dead time after trying to access a page on the AR forums.

ScrollcutterI get the same thing and I am on a high speed connection as well. It bogs down on me all of the time, so I just close the window and go back to work.
So it works out pretty well for me.

Glad to hear someone else is having that problem, I thought it was my PC.

FjoldI'm on a DSL at home and a T-1 at work and I have the same problems with slow connections 20 times a day.

30ott6I have a DSL connection and I too have had problems. What is strange is that it is not all the time. Sometimes it's quick and other times a slug. Seems like leaving the site then returning a minute later or so can make a difference.

DRGOK..I've just optimized the tables again for the second straight day. It is better right now...we'll see if it helps more than 1 day.

Mike SmithThanks Don, Im guessing it is all the pictures and video again. Although I get frustrated at times I just come back later.

Mike375Don,
I find that when I click on the Favourite or the link from AccurateReloading it is like I have not clicked on anything. It does not behave like something is happening. I don't think the pictures are a problem as when AR is OK it opens immediately.
But unlike JJHack I have found a similar situation with two other sites and those sites are not guns/ammo sites, they are data base sites

. Although AR is where the problem is most common BUT again I am seeing the same problem on two other sites.

458RugerNo1Same problem here JJ, I'm on satellite link and it's generally pretty darned fast, but this site has times where it's quite sluggish - frustrating but worth the wait!

DRGMike...I can see the database slow right in front of my eyes at times. The server will respond at normal speed for pictures, etc. What I can also see is that when someone does a search and does not limit the search to just a week or so everything grinds to a halt. This is a problem we can't solve unless we delete a few hundred thousand posts....something we are not about to do.
Frustrating for our users and frustrating for me as I can't do anything about the mysql software.

artI believe the serach function is on the very "generous" side, for a software such as MySQL. One way for sure to avoid the adverse effects of searches with huge domain of data is to limit the date range to a period of less than 6 months, let's say for starters and adjust that as system feedback would guide us.

SteveDon,
How about archiving the 'older' posts on another server running a separate UBB process? Not sure how you could add 'new' posts to the archive. Maybe set up separate UBB process per year?
Costs might be prohibitive as you'd have to pay for another server, however.
Just a thought.

FjoldThis morning I clicked the "Back" button after reading my third post and the computer shifted to slow. After about 4 minutes I got the old "Website not available" message.

458RugerNo1Amen to that! This site is without question the #1 hunting/shooting/firearms site on the net and my hearty thanks go to our Administrators here for a fantastic job that I'm sure at times is quite a task...
To my brother members here I also say thanks for your input and the great comraderie!
Thank you!
