Southern Africa in one week
I'm off to Africa, first Namibia, then Zimbabwe and finally some travels in Southern Cape Province in one week. Be gone for over a month.

On the list is gemsbok, springbok, hartebeest and tuskless cow elephant. Plus whatever else might be left on quota unsold.

Good hunting to everyone going over this season.

I forgot to post above, I will be joining Jaco and compatriots for a braai in Pretoria. Thanks to Jaco for offering.

***

Cunningham,

I will be flying over Adelaide to Perth, then Jo'burg, flying time 15.25 hours (incl 3.5 hours to Perth). Coming back Jo'burg to Sydney, is listed as 11.75 hrs, plus 2.25 hours.

Does anyone know why the longer return journey is actually shorter in time?

I think it's got something to do with the winds. Flying to SA you will most probably have a nose wind and going back you will have a tail wind. It makes a huge difference in the flying time.

That was my guess too. The winds in the South Southern Ocean are West to East ("Roaring Forties") but the flights are well North of that area I believe. Predominant wind direction is probably the answer. Thanks.

Best of luck, John. When I went in March I had the direct Sydney-Jo'berg flight. Flying time similar, longest 14 hours of my life, chewed pain killers all the way.

Consider buying noise cancelling headphones duty free - you can actually hear the dialogue in the movies.

Best wishes,

mike

I have flown Atlanta to Joberg twice, and back of course.

Everybody complains about the plane and the flight. I found the SAA crew to be very good.
The food was also very good, for plane food.
I do not see why there are so many complaints.... but I must admit I would cling to the wing to get there. Big Grin

I consider it part of the adventure...

The only thing that makes me nervous is my baggage.
As long as I and IT gets there at the same time I am happy.
