Air Charter JoBurg / Buff Range
Given the BA situation and difficutlies in getting to Hararre, It looks like I'll have to fly into JoBurg this year.

I would like to try and skip the leg into Hararre, and just go from JoBurg direct to Buffalo Range.

Anyone taken a charter from JoBurg to Buffalo Range?

Who do you reccomend?
About what will this cost?

No idea of cost. You might contact Matetsi Air Services at hhk@mweb.co.zw or 011-2634-499165 for information.

Thanks, David - I've got an email into HHK now.

Anyone have any other companies come to mind?

Well, it's clear that this isn't going to be easy...

The first quote I got back was for $3250.00 EACH WAY...

Given the $6000+/- difference you could fly SAA all the way to Harare, and pay for another hunt!

Or upgrade the whole trip to Business class!

FYI -
I've received a total of 3 quotes now, and all are in basically in the $800.00/hour range.

It's 2-hours from Joburg to Buffalo Range and 2-hours back (they obviously charge you both ways).

Double that for the return trip and you're at 8-hours of fying time for $6,000-$6,500.00 (tax not included.)

If you are hunting with the Styles at Buffalo Range, Barry has his own airplane. He can pick you up. We had the option of him flying from Buffalo Range to Harare to pick us up last year- I don't remember the cost, but it was enough that we opted to pay $500 to be picked up by Land Cruiser and drive to Buffalo Range. It was about a 4 hour drive, but on main roads - wasn't bad. We are hunting with Barry in May, but in Kazuma, so we are flying into Vic Falls and have a 2 hour drive from there.

If you choose to fly, I'm sure Barry is less expensive than charter services. Jeff

Dumb Question:

Can you clear immigration and customs at Buffalo Range or is there another option (i.e., clear Zim customs in SA?

Yes, you can clear customs at Buffalo Range (at least you could in 2003).

We're hunting in the Save Conservancy again, and I made that drive from HRE in '03 (it's not unbearable, but it's no fun after 24-hours in transit) and am trying to avoid it, but given these intial quotes - it may not be avoidable.

Yes you can clear immagrations in Buffalo Range, I've hunted there many times with Barry & Rob Styles, but I did the route that Jeff Alexander did, took the drive by land Cruiser, much cheaper then the plane flight... I think the plane was around $650.00 compared to the Land Cruiser, $125.00
