Magnum Hunter1Anybody sold a Zebra rug???
I am thinking of selling my zebra rug, (soon as it gets done, about a month) and was wondering if anyone had sold one. If so, to who (if it is a company) and about how much do they bring? I have done some searches for ones for sale and gotten some prices but don't know who is buying. Just thought I would check it out and see if it is worth the hassle.
Doug
They sell them in the gift shops at the Joburg airport for around $1,000 if I remember correctly.

Might do well with taxidermist. I requested some Zebra patches to use in bookcase panel to dress it up and give it that African look. They told me I had to buy the entire Zebra hide $750 if I remember correct. Anyway, seems they might want the pieces for the pedestal mount animals.

Zebra sell for between $800.00 and $1,200.00. Depending on size, the condition, and the border. Yes, I saw them in Jo'Burg airport, last week for around $1,000.00......

Giraffe HunterWhat type of restrictions are there if a rug is purchased at the airport and then returned home with you to the US? Do you have to do fill out special customs forms when arriving in the US?

BwanahileWhy do you want to sell it? I can't wait to get mine from RSA! And am planning on shooting another when I can so I can have a zebra rug in my office.

Jorge400My sister inlaw wants me to bring one back in a couple of weeks; however, I did not want the hasstle of dealing with it and I'm not about to give up mine when/if I get one. I found several on e-bay and pointed her in that direction. You may want to take a look there. It seems there were numerous rugs for sale when I looked.

The cheapest I have seen is around $600 at auctions - unlined. Average - I would say $700 - $1000. Like most hunting trophies, it's pretty hard to get out of them the amount you put into them!

Magnum Hunter1To answer the "why sell it", I am returning to Zim in October to hunt buffalo and I would like to shoot another zebra, I don't really need two and would like to recoup some funds to take another, and another, and another and. Its a vicious cycle. Thats all.

cowboykellMagnum Hunter: Where are you located?, how big rug?, felt lined?, how much? Passed on zebra, couldn't bring myself to shoot one of those "prison horses" but would like a rug.

wannagoSearch "zebra rug" on ebay. Should get a few comparisons.

Everyone needs 2 zebra's minimum

one rug and one shoulder mount.

Tim CarneyYour do need at least two: I've taken a Burchells stallion and one of Mrs. Hartmann's mountain zebra stallions. Both were delicious and made nice rugs, the Burchells being larger.
Regards, Tim
I've got three so far, well one is a shoulder mount. But kept the backskin to use on a side table.
One rug for the study.
Another for the dining room.
Then there is the formal lounge.
Maybe my wife's office.
My office.
Then there is the city house .....
Guess I will be busy on safari for a while.

Just remembered I was thinking the other day of trying to source two old leather high backed arm chairs. Where the leather needs replacing. Re-uphoslter but make the centre panel into zebra skin a la the chairs used in Beretta advertisements.
Kitch but .... I like it.
Give us a price, we can always use another hide.
