For whatever reason, the perusal of the local newspaper's year's end review of deceased notables, has always been of great interest to me.

Just checking to see if your name is there?

Val Kilmer and Curt Russell. Madonna.

Who, of today's notables, dares to ride that trail? Other than a smattering of major politicians and millionaire sports figures, I'm hard-pressed to come up a short-list.

I'd be willing to bet you could destroy the band width with a list of the NOTABLES who are either anti, or afraid to stand up for hunting and shooting!

I don't find anti's notable! You could add Jane Fonda and Ted Turner.

Yes, Thanks guys. Selleck, Rainey, Kilmer and Russell are strong examples, to be sure. I wonder how their activities have impacted either their professional careers or social activities, in the prevailing atmosphere. It must surely be difficult for them. I wonder if Selleck might be a candidate for Heston's spot. Anyone know what's happening with that?

Actually I am patiently awaiting the demise of Barb Strisand, Jenifer Asston , Mike Ferral, George Clowney , Dixie Chicken S--ts , and a few others that make me want to puke...These people think money makes them smart, and they are about a dumb over all as a box of hammers and none have much of an education, or even a proper upbringing, but why am I telling ya'll this, you know it.

If you go to www.pgatour.com (That's Professional Golfers Association touring pros) and look at the players bio's, you will see that almost 50% hunt (and aren't afraid to say so).

I once was at a meeting of the Professional Bowhunters Society convention and one of the auction items was a great framed display of Jack Nickaus' Montana hunting license with his fingerprint in blood imprinted thereupon, and below (in the same frame) a pic of Jack and the "blood donor" (a nice 8-point buck he killed with his bow), all nicely ready to put on the wall... it went for peanuts.. I had already bought a bear hunt and was tapped out, but I think the price was only $250. If you are lucky enought to go to his house, there is a big 45" buff over the fireplace.

I've been hunting with another "Hall of Fame" golfer who wouldn't leave the B.S. session one Saturday morning after a bowhunt, not incidently during the Buick Open at Callaway Gardens (He being the defending champion). I was driving, and he had a tee time of 12:20 or so. I couldn't get him to quit standing around the campfire trading stories. He was so late that I had to drop him off at the practice tee in his camo... he changed in the clubhouse, hit about 20 balls, and shot a 68 that afternoon. If I remember correctly, he won 88K that weekend. Didn't get a deer, though. He has 4000 acres of the best swamp and live oaks I've ever hunted on, btw.

Professional Golfers (and the members of Augusta National) haven't gotten politically correct, yet, so it seems. Thank God!

Thought of a couple of others, Sylvester Stallone and his brother Frank (although I'm not sure Frank is a celebrity). Greg Norman and his son.

I know Nicklaus hunted a number of times with Matthew Greef Safaris, out of Mapumalanga. The family, too. The Stallone's are no surprise, either but I guess many don't publicize the fact that they are hunters and that's the shame of it, in my view. They should be as vocal in support of hunting as others are in denegrading it. It's good to learn so many golfers enjoy hunting. Ted Williams was a big name hunter for many years and did many endorsements for Sears and other companies. I remember major league pitchers Ron Guidry and Catfish Hunter used to say they couldn't wait for the season to be over, so they could do some huntin'. Same with Wade Boggs and others. Not too familiar with today's group, however.

Sly Stallone owns a large ranch in our gorgeous South, which happens to be one of the most beautiful landscapes in the world. Also a prime hunting and fishing location. The site is full of big trout, red stag and wild boar.

Ray had an excellent point about the celebs who think the rest of the world wants to hear their views on everything. Some real a-holes who come to mind are Susan Sarandon and that moron husband of hers and Martin Sheen. I don't know about the rest of you, but I don't give a rats ass if most of Hollyweird lives, dies, or grows mushrooms in their cracks. Bunch of spoiled, pretentious, pompous asses, the whole lot of them with VERY few exceptions.

No argument, here. I just wish those among them who do enjoy the shooting sports would be more vocal about it. As revered as Heston was, I don't think he can ever be credited enough for his personal bravery, and it is just that, in the giving of his presence to the NRA, in such times as these. I hope for someone from that quarter to at least try to fill his very large shoes. We need it, bigtime.

Madonna was on Letterman tonight. Dave asked her about hunting and she gave a dam good reply. Not an exact quote but she said something to the effect of: "It is a blood-sport. I am not a vegetarian so, basically, I am killing what I will eat for dinner." She went on to give a description of the hunt, of how the birds are hung for a few days to age and how they are prepared. Dave asked her if she enjoyed eating them she replied "yes, it's very nice."

With the exception of Ted Nugent this was by far the most forthright I have seen celebrity respond when asked about hunting. Madonna has always had balls, you have to give her that!

Yes, she always had guts and did things her own way.
Not crazy about her, generally, but I do admire her. I did not know of her interest in hunting. Pleasantly surprised!

Madona and her husband, just took delivery of two top of the line shotguns made for them by H&H! They are both bird hunters, and live in England, where the most rabbid anti hunters, and anti gun idiots live. Cudos for her, and her husband! I'm not fond of her morals, but at least she cows to no one, she does her thing, and damn those who don't like it!

I'm visualizing her, approaching the podium in one of her outfits, as spokesperson for the NRA. It works for me.
