New SAA airbus
I called them on the phone. No more 747s on the Jo'Burg to Atl flight. We're stuck with that POS French Airbus. jorge
I had enough side to side room on the flight over, but even sitting up all the way, I couldn't position my knees in such a way that they weren't shoved into the seat in front of me. On the Delta connection to Atlanta, this wasn't the case; my knees weren't actually touching if I was all the way back until the lady in front of me put the seat back.
United, SAA, and Southwest had less knee room than American and Delta the last times I've flown them.
I did like the height of the new seats, though. I could lean my head back and still hit the seat when I dozed.
I'd pay $150 extra for extra leg room.

Folks,
Because of the slowness of the SAA web site, I took the liberty of 'borrowing' the seating diagrams for the Airbuses.
The images are not good, but they can give an idea how it's all arranged.

Not sure which seating arrangement is used on the Atlanta flight.

1JDANIELWhat about brew or set-ups? I am an economy traveler whom happens to drink?
At this time flights from Atlanta to JNB are using both aircrafts.
For Coach the seats are the same on both Plan 1 and 2.
Business First Seats
Plan 1 has 48 seats, these do not fully recline.
Plan 2 has 42 seats, these will fully recline.
Within the next month, all planes flying out of Atlanta will be Plan 2.
