High school graduation present
High school graduation present
For my grandson's high school graduation present I am taking him to Africa on an ele hunt in the Caprivi. He has hunted whitetails here in Alabama some but that is about it. I can't wait to see the look on his face when we get up close to those big bulls! I think I am more excited than he is. He really has no idea what to expect, though he has heard me talk about it. I plan on letting him write the report so we can see things from his eyes. 40 days til the experience begins!!

D. NelsonWhat a wonderful gift and experience he has ahead of him. And, what a memory you will share. Can't wait for the report.
Best regards, D. Nelson
I took my daughter on safari for both high school and college graduation presents. I've been on 20+ safaris and without a doubt, the two taking her were the best of all.
I sent you a p.m., btw.
JudgeG ... just counting time 'til I am again finding balm in Gilead chilled out somewhere in the Selous.

FishN4EyesNeed another grandson??

FishN4Eyes, I have a 7 mon. old granddaughter. I hope I'm able to move around enough when she gets old enough for me to take her hunting. There is a bond formed while hunting that you don't get anywhere else.

Dang, you beat me to it.
Now is the grandson just going to be an observer or are you going to let him shoot the ele?

He will be an observer. I didn't make that clear in my original post. I'm going to let him be the camera man.I'm not sure how steady the footage will be when we get into the eles. I am going to work something out so he can shoot some plans game if he wants.

safari-lawyerI was rewarded with African trips when I completed college and law school. Helluva motivator to work hard when you know that future trips are on your dime.

Use Enough GunMan, I was rewarded with debt from student loans for my two University degrees and my law school degree!

Damn lucky folks! All of my 11 African safaris have been on my dime!

Congrats to the lucky young man!

bwanajayThat is awesome Randy. I am taking my wife and school aged kids over as well and can't wait. My 15 year old son medaled in pole vaulting at the State meet here in Texas so we are in full celebration mode. They will finally see "in person" what draws me back to Africa year after year.
I'm taking my son in August. He is graduating high school and has been a good kid, mostly. I took him in 2008 and all he shot was a wart hog and some guinea fowl. This trip he will be on point on plainsgame.
You can borrow money, but you can't borrow time. Don't wait, go now.

brent ebelingTotally awesome. Will is right, he will get a taste and want to go back, maybe help him to decide to buckle down and study harder.
I took my brother with me to Namibia once. I paid for hunt he had to earn his airfare and tip money. It was awesome to make those memories together.

Aaron NeilsonRandy, excellent plan and good luck to you both!!!!
Like others here, in 2008 I took my girlfriend's son to the Save Valley with me for his high school grad present. I hunted lion/buffalo, and he shot 6 plains game animals - he loved it!!!!
One of my most memorable hunts ever. Hope yours is the same - good luck.

Texas Blue DevilRandy,
Who are you hunting with??
I'm taking my nephew to the Caprivi in August. We can't wait.
Go Duke!!
Jamy Traut, it is for an "own use" bull hunt with a little PG. We plan on doing some fishing, I am no fisher but Cody, my grandson LOVES to. I asked him if he knew what a tiger fish was and he didn't, I sure hope he hooks one.
My doctor is taking his son to SA for his HS graduation and I am tagging along. This will be his first hunt for anything larger than whitetail so we are plains game hunting. I think I am more excited to watch him than I am for me or his dad. I hunted there 2 yeas ago and we took a side trip down to the Karoo to get a 4 Springbuck. One of my fondest was watching my PH's son and daughter get their first animals.
We are wheels up two weeks from today!!!!!

sevenmagltd.Along the same lines, I am taking my son for his college grad present to see if he can sort out Mr. Spots on the BVC. He worked hard on grades and has a good job lined out in Corpus Christi after we return from Zim. Best money a guy could spend is with his son or daughter on safari.
