UglystickBLAIR,
I used a 500 grain BARNES X from my 458 win mag.
Bullets are pushed to 2130 by R7.
Best place to hit is the heart lung area which is located not realy behind the shoulder but more under it in the Giraffe "arm pit"
A good book that shows the vitals is Kevin Robertsons "Shots on Game" It is the only adequate explanation I have seen for the funky vitals in a Giraffe.

Brain1Gemsbok gets my vote. A close # 2 would be a 60" plus Kudu. If I can't get one bigger than the one I have I'll pass and let him get bigger.

Uglystick,
That load would do the trick! I've read Robertson's book and was wondering if what he said was correct in your opinion.
Thanks for the info. Hope to take a old stink bull, next time out. Watching one drop, must be something!

Regards,
Blair.

He was an 18' big black stink bull in the Save Conservancy (Zim).
I shot him from 60 yards or so quartering away. Got him right in the plumbing on the first shot, my second shot (shoot him again) hit his hip and he was down in 30 paces.
First animal that I have shot where I could see his reaction in my scope with the recoil. He got all wobbly and then tried to make a break for it. It is a strange thing to aim up.
BTW: For anyone considering a Giraffe.. they double the cost of shipping home your trophies. That hide is dang heavy.

loucfirAll this talk about big African animals, well let me tell you, there's nothing more fierce than a cane rat...funny lookin' buggers.
My vote is Nyala, they are really beautiful.

TheBigGuyImpala are an absolute blast to hunt with a bow at a waterhole. Not super tough but tough enough and the experience will leave you with wanting to shoot another. Don't know why it's so satisfying. But for me it is.
Zebra can be a very challenging quarry with any weapon. Immensely underated in my opinion. Maybe it was just the ones in the herd I was pursuing. They cut my rear end, I never got one. They flat wore me out.

Mountain zebra are hard to hunt. Mike Kibble dragged me up and down some really wild country! Thank God, my shot broke both shoulders and the zebra stallion collapsed on the spot; 2 yards to his right was a ravine a couple of hundred feet deep
