Tanzania croc
A gunsmith friend sent me this pic from a recent trip to Tanzania. His daughter and her husband took this large croc, estimated to be about 80 years old, 14.5 feet:

Thats a big trophy!! Some days ago Ive seen a documental about a croc in Burundi, rated as the biggest in all of Africa. It measured more than 6 meters and was credited with killing several locals.....unfortunately its end was not known, but his age was guessed at 60. Thats many years short of the beastie in the picture.

You may be referring to the recent PBS documentary on "Gustave". He was a really big croc, near 18 feet. Mysteriously disappeared after the filming, thought to have been machine gunned by the military (after eating quite a few locals). There's some articles on the web about him. Don't know how they estimate crocs' ages.

Here's another pic of my friend's son-in-law:

The second picture gives a much better perspective of the size of the croc, but unfortunately doesn't seem to capture the beautiful scenery that the first one had.

Very simple mate, although can be dangerous on live croc.
First you find your croc! Then lift its tail and count the growth rings around its arse
