I would like to get some information on who manf. quality products for carrying 10 or so rounds of 470 NE and 375 H&H while in the field and that make ammo easily accessible for quick reloading.
Thanks

MZEEUncle Mikes or Murray Leather in Texas. Uncle Mikes work great but if you want Quailty leather go with Murray. CHEERS

RedlanderCheck out
Westley Richards. you did say quality, didn't you?
If you are going to carry a big stick, you've got to whack someone with it at least every once in while.

Jeff WemmerIf in fact you are interestred in a belt made from modern materials, e.g. Nylon, let me know and I'll make you up one custom. No charge!
Otherwise Murray is the way to go!

You can pay more at Westley Richards, or you can get the best quality in the world at Murrey's

Another option is Jeff's Outfitters. He bought the former "Cape Outfitters" inventory.
They carry excellent cartridge belts and wallets. Virtually identical to Westley Richards for a third of the price. I know. I bought one of the WR .375 belts for around $160.00 and compared it to my buddy's $70.00 Jeff's Outfitters belt. Absolutey no difference except for the WR logo. Expensive lesson. 573-651-3200.
Galazans in CT also carries the same belts and wallets for a smilar price.
The above mentioned belts and wallets come in cartridge specific sizes.
Don't forget Cabelas. They are carrying two cartridge belts from Boyt Harness. One is canvas(15 round) and a new leather one(10 round). You can find them on their website. Also available are 5 and 10 round open top wallets from Boyt. Good value.
As mentioned, it is tough to beat Murrays but they can be expensive.
Good luck.

RustyI used an Uncle Mike's rig for my 450/400 and my 375 H&H. Simple, functional and will let you spend your money on more trophy fees.

AtkinsonCabellas has a great new belt out in their latest catalogs, and its made correctly...It is a cloth belt.
I notice they also have a new leather belt, but I don't like leather belts for brass cartridges..

Both are made for Cabelas by Boyt. At this point, they are available only through Cabelas.
I have not seen them in person but they look good.

WillThere are some that wouldn't know the difference between a $500 and a $5000 saddle.
Westley Richards is the best, and equal or better than Galco workmanship.

500grainsI recommend Africase:
email for Africase: ha1@xmission.com
Africase carriers are substantially better quality than either the Westley Richards or Murray Leather carriers that I own.

Charles_HelmRusty,
You posted that picture once before and I have been wondering if you just added an extra Uncle Mike's belt slide to the cartridge belt, or if that is a model I can't find on their website.
Thanks.

trapmonkeyI recently bought 3 of the boyt harness cloth belts from cabela's and they look fine! testing them with some 500NE & 416 rigby in march. oddly enough they say max size on the bullet is 416, but we've slid some 500's in and streched the canvas a little.
they seem great for the price. cheers, tm.

AtkinsonTrapmonkey,
The Boyt by Cabellas or the Uncle Mikes is the only way to go, if you intend to stay any length of time...Good luck with yours.
Leather sucks for cartridge carriers IMO...I used them for years and they are expensive, uncomfortable, hard to break in, and cause the rounds to turn green if you leave them in too long, and pretty quick in humid climates, they also tend to let rounds climb out when walking and can be bloody tight or way too loose on any given day...They also tend to let the belt rise when your in a hurry to grab one and pull it out and that is plenty disconcerting.
I finally made my own by sewing two of the cheap Cabellas black streatch material belts together and closing the bottom loop at the bottom on one of them...that way only part of the rim sticks out and that is the very top and the rest of the cartridge is covered...
Now with the Boyts or Uncle Mikes you don't have to make your own, they are like the one I made..I will be ordering one for next year. You can load the cartridge carriers with whatever caliber you want and just slide them on your belt depending on what gun your carrying that day...I like about 4 slides, I load them and never have to do any changing of rounds...

trapmonkeyDear Mr. Atkinson
You are completely right we do hunt during the marginal seasons as the hunts i sell are in the 12month exemption farms as well as the zambezi valley. In high humidity and in rain, the leather really shrinks around the cartridges making them hard to remove.
The worst thing is a leather pouch that has been soaked through and then only partially dried, the rough inner skins increase in traction and sometimes shrink. Pretty hard to get your shells out to load....and i have never had to do it under duress. i imagine that having to do a reload and not being able to get a round out of the belt would PO anyone.
The boyt belts were bought and given to my best customers and personal friends. we'll see how they work soon. I'm counting the days.
cheers,guy
ps the other option is to use uncle mikes or some other tactical nylon and a good thick needle and nylon thread. We have used blackhawk stuff which carries 500NE well, but is not so good for emergency reloads.

AtkinsonTrapmonkey,
As a note, the canvas belts get loose (not the streatch ones) but soak them and dry them and they come back to snug..I have gotten belt and ammo wet many times, stepping in a hole is not that uncommon when wading in the vugas...
