I'm not sure what that cow is above, but it certainly is not a full blood or anywhere near it, Watusi. It looks like a longhorn to me, or some kind of longhorn cross, since I own a few hundred of them, I kind of know the look.

Unfortunately, I won't have a photo of the buck until I get the antlers sent to me, likely this week or next.

I hit the buck too high just before dark on Sun., and he ran off into the thick cedars. We tracked him for a couple hours that night, then came back the next morning again. We eventually lost any blood trail and gave up since I had to leave for home and the ranch manager had to go to his other job.

He went back to the area the next day and found the buck dead. He was lying about 20 feet from a water hole. So he recovered the antlers, and will be shipping them to me. Now I'll have to get a cape somewhere.

Looks like you were in some thick stuff for sure. Sorry the buck got lost for a bit.

Since the subject came up, does anyone raise watusi, I'm in need of a young bull????? and I agree with others, that is not a watusi in the picture but one helluva Heinz 57!!!!

Thanks for clearing up what we did "not" hunt.

I didn't even know that something like a Watuzi existed until I got to that ranch... There were animals resembling those in Charles Helm's pictures and Texas Long Horns all walking together on the ranch though so I guess I got confused. Sorry about that...

Either way; "hunting" these "cows" was almost as challenging as hunting a milk cow in the paddock... but we had fun. Met some great people, enjoyed good food and had a very different experience stomping through the mud and sludge on that ranch.

Frankly, what I have in mind is that,in Texas, when a man tells me he owns a "ranch", I am thinking of 640 acres, one section, -at least -and multiplied. Everything else is a farm. As an Easterner, I am always awed by the sheer size of the West. Make "exotics" live long enough for some trigger happy "hunter" determined to have a "trophy" on his wall to shoot one? I have no objection to what my fellow Americans do as a legal business (despite my personal opinion to the "business". I'm just glad that Texans as yourself feel otherwise. (I don't hunt anymore but it's nice to read that there are still hunters out there)

Thanks Mac and yes; as I've discovered since Mr. Helm posted his picture that is not a Watuzi in mine... my mistake... Thank goodness I don't guide on Watuzis back here in Africa! ... the dairy farmers will kill me

The rifle is a Merkel in 9.3. This was however not the rifle that the animal was shot with. As I recall the client used a 7mm Rem Mag (can't remember the make).
