Zulu Nyala is owned and operated by Trevor Shaw. He's been in the biz for at least 30 years. For a long time, he was THE GUY for big Nyala and top accommodations in RSA. That was a long time ago and I'm sure the pack has caught up to him, but I've not heard a bad comment on his operations that I can recall. He's in the diamond biz as well.

Stayed 2 nights in September Jnb on my way back from hunt up in Limpopo. Nice accomodations & dining facilities. There are a few animals on the property. Riding stable on property, pool, tennis courts. Met Trevor briefly but did speak with his wife Bella for a bit (also got to pet their pet wolf) she is very pleasant. They do deal in diamonds and tanzanite. You will need transportaion if you want to go any where. It isn't near anything else and you have to go through a few rough areas.

Zulu Nyala is located near Hluhluwe in Natal. They have 3 different facalities, the Lodge, Hotel and "safari camp". Mark DeWet who posts here is incharge of their hunting operations. Frank Beller (who also posts here), his wife Joyce and I stayed at the lodge for a week last fall while I hunted Suni on nearby property. It is a very nice property for "tourist" activities. The property in Joberg is a different property owned by Trevor. We have sold Trevor's package deal at our SCI banquet for many years and have never had one complaint by the people that have purchased and used the packages. They will also arrange side trips for their patrons. I would highly recommend this package to your friend. If you want more info please PM me.

Great place to go. A upgrade to a short hunt while you are there is very easy. Perfect frrst trip for anyone.

trevor & bella are real pros at the hospitality business. he still does a bit of hunting. they are expensive in comparison to some of the others around, but are 1st class all around. he's hosted a couple of movie sets at the lodge, and his diamond business has an outlet in NY. my 1st trip to africa was with him for nyala way back when.

Ditto on what everyone has said. I collected some of the birds (and my first nyala) that are in the SCI museum at Zulu Nyala when it still was a hunting operation. Haven't been back since Trevor turned it into a photo safari area, but it was loaded with game then -- kudu, nyala, bushbuck, reeedbuck, impala and smaller antelope.

I went there in 2004 and have a mixed report.

I bought one of the 'photo safari' offerings at an SCI Chapter auction with the intention of upgrading to a nyala hunt. The upgrade cost me the full daily price ($350 per day as I recall) and there were fees for transport and stuff. I could have just booked the hunt and forgot about bidding on the 'photo safari' as that didn't really get me much.

Where I stayed was not up at the (very nice) lodge on the hill. To stay there was an upgrade even though there were very few people staying there at the time. They took us up there for dinner one night and some of the non-hunting people I was mixed in with at the lesser facilities 'upgraded' to stay up there, which is why I think they took us up there for dinner in the first place. Being mixed in with non-hunter types that had bought photo safaris at school fundraiser events was clumsy also.

Nearly all daily activities cost extra and I was even charged for every beer I had and for laundry service, something that I hadn't run into on other hunts.

On the positive side the property we hunted held very good nyala. I also took a very good common reedbuck and bushbuck.

Matt, those photo packages aren't like the hunting packages with a higher day rate, but it does suprise me if you up graded to hunting day rate that you still paid for laundry drinks etc. I stayed there last fall on a hunt and paid the normal day rate for hunting and it covered everything ie laundry drinks etc. I hunted off property.

Our party had a tremendous time at ZN for a week after hunting in the NW Province for a week previous. Our accomodations were first rate, the food was top drawer and the expenses for add on's were no surprise. Fantastic views, animals and the Zulu people are not only beautiful, but genuinely good people. I would whole heartedly recommend this non-hunting experience to anyone visiting Zulu Nyala. Take advantage of the many off site opportunities avaiable as they are very much worth it. I have a bunch of photo's from my hunt report in 2008 posted here on AR.

My wife and I bought the photo safari, went in sept 2010 it was her first time to africa and she shot 2000 photos in 6 days.i would recommend taking the extra day trips that are offered. Cost wise it added $960 to our stay and was worth it.
