1st round for buffalo
OK, now that the "bullet-for-charging-buffalo" thread has gone into orbit, I'm a little confused.

I have heard folks say that shooting a broadside buff standing in a herd, it's irresponsible to use a solid, due to the probability of wounding another buffalo.

So then, if the wounded buff begins to leave along with the herd, a solid loaded in the magazine would prevent a quick followup shot.

Others say using ALL solids is fine.

What would you PH's say if a client wanted to shoot a buff with a solid, and it's a herd situation?

Rick.

I guess the solid people have to make sure they hit the shoulder. Boddington preaches expanding up the barrel, solids in the mag.

If you are using .458 diameter or larger, why not go with all solids and life simple?

You use a soft up when you are hunting the herds so that you don't get two Buff with one shot IMO...otherwise just use solids..

Most Buff will go about 40 yards with a solid or a soft and die...If the soft is so fantastic then why don't their adherents just use softs and nothing else, could it be because they don't trust them?? Do they think all shots are presented broadside, picture perfect?? Solid users never have a problem using all solids. I like two holes in my Buffalo.

What Ray said is exactly what my PH says. He wants me using all solids and he wants two holes. Period.
