jetdrvrIf it's Africa we're talking about, then:
7mm Rem
.375 H&H
.458 Win
If it's stateside, Canada and the Western Hemisphere, then;
22-250
7mm Rem
.375 H&H
That's based on financial reality, not what I would actually prefer for Africa.
Based on complete fantasy, Iwould trade the .458 for a bespoke Holland LH 500NE.

If it was a bit more open I would have changed the Hornet for a good shotgun to complete my perfect African arsenal

I cannot argue with this. Even if rimfires were included, I might choose the .223

GatogordoTough one, 4 would make it a lot easier, but for my area in the US and MY potential African hunting, I'd have to go with:
.22 LR
.300 Win Mag (although this could just as well be a .308 or .30-06)
.375 H&H or equivalent
I'd really like to have a .223 in there as well.

Michael RobinsonWhat the hell. I'll play.

For everything on earth?
.22 Long Rifle in an Anschutz 1416 or Weatherby Mark XXII
.30-06 in an Ed Brown 702 or 704
.416 Rem. Mag. in a Win. M70 CRF
For Africa only?
.375 H&H Mag. in a Win. M70 CRF
.416 Rem. Mag. in a Win. M70 CRF
.500 A-Square in an AHR CZ 550 Magnum

Gerrypeters375buckeyeshooter:
You came very close to my own choices. (I always liked Ohio)

I never even held a 470 NE, until I saw Africa. I fired my PH's 470 about 6 times or so - and discovered it was just great to shoot - same as my 375 - a push -rather than a mule's kick - and, believe me, I have shot calibers that I thought were like a mule's kick - and I am not particularly sensitive to recoil. Fact. (There is a world of difference between shooting a 338 Win. Mag. and a 375 H&H. THe former really kicks - to me anyway) So I'll have to root for OSU from now on.

WE agree on what guns to have around!

After that I would have whichever rifles I chose as a free person.

mauser93I don't know how I missed (this version of) this thread. This seems awfully easy to me, particularly if one factors in ammo availability.
1. .22LR

Truth is, just about all more or less modern calibers will do whatever we need, so long as semi-reasonable constraints are observed (like: no 22-250's on hefalump).

safari-lawyerA fast count shows 42 of 118 posters (me too)chose some type of .22 (22, 223, 22-250, etc) as one of their three rifles. I'm favorably suprised at the poitive showing for the versitle little 22.
