ManCannon1st Time Cape Buffalo Hunt
I would like opinions from the collective on a first time buffalo hunt. Where, when, recommendations on who to book with, etc... I'm in the beginning stages of putting together a hunt for 2007-2008 time frame and would like opinions. I'm not too interested in plains game except as an "after the buffalo" kind of deal. I'm more interested in spending 7-10 days 1x1 and taking a nice buffalo. Don't throw in "cheap" as a reason. If I'm laying down the cash to go, I want quality. I'm thinking the Selous... Opinions wanted

MHC_TXHere is a start:
Africa is a long way to go for just 7 days. I would recommend a minimum of 10 days and if you go to Tanzania you can shoot 2 buffalo on a 10-day license. Usually, the day rates are more in Tanzania, but the trophy fees are less. And I wouldn't rule out some plains game. I would think about a zebra, warthog and at least and impala. Also, if you go to the Selous there are a couple animals you can only get there.

shakariA 7 day licence in the Selous will allow you take the following:
2 Buff
1 Zebra
2 Wildebeest
1 S Impala
1 Warthog
1 L Hartebeest
A 7 day licence in Masailand will allow you to take:
2 Buff
1 Zebra
2 Wildebeest
1 EA Impala
1 Grant's Gazelle
1 Thompson's Gazelle
1 Warthog
1 C Hartebeest
Either can be extended to 10 days hunting. If you choose Selous you will see a lot more Buffalo and probably not have to work too hard to take them. Masailand is harder work but nowhere near impossible........we just took 3 good bulls there in 2 days. We took lots of other good animals as well including two excellent leopards and I hope to get the new pictures on our website as soon as possible.
