We need a few more assholes like him to post videos of their exploits; all the more ammo for Hilary when she takes the hot seat.

shootawayI saw his video on youtube.I did not pay attention to his every word said but I did not find anything wrong with him or the video.

BuffHunter63The article starts out with an outright lie about how it took the bear hours to die, and in the article itself, the spear thrower stated the bear died immediately.
It would be neat if the thrower would sue the publisher of the article.
Reminds me of how the press treats everything Trump says or doesn't say - always twists it into something negative.
IMO if hunters have to start "hiding" their activities from the public, then we have already lost the battle. Slipping around and doing things, hoping not to get noticed, turns legitimate acts into shady acts of cowardice.

Exactly. Here the media is lying and putting someone's life in danger and no one can do anything about it.All to serve the agenda of the people who own the media.

Good Morning Opus1,
But "we can't back down" remember?
What a crock of absolute horseshit. What was the desired outcome? embarrassing.

MARK H. YOUNGGuys
I don't watch outdoor TV unless I'm just droning out for a little while but I did see a couple of bears killed in these spear hunts. I don't personally like it but it was obvious with enough skill the spear killed very well. I agree though that putting this stuff on YouTube is just a mistake and gives every anti the opportunity to twist the facts to make us all look like bloodthirsty cavemen.

reddy375I totally agree Mark. I am not a fan of any of this. Same goes for the guys who want to kill pigs with knives. Not doubting their great strength and bravery but we have to move on. For the sake of a few nutters we will all be screwed.
Had one guy at DSC come to the booth wanting to spear a buff in Burkina. The guides there said PLEEEASE dont send him

Opus1In the south you kill pigs with a knife - why waste a bullet. Doesn't mean that I am going to video it and plaster it all over the internet.
But if I did, I certainly would expect everything that was about to happen including the death threats. Don't understand why that isn't apparent to all hunters.
Fingers and electrical sockets springs to mind...

GrenadierI agree, ban the killing of pigs with spears and knives. No ARs should be used either. All they do is spray rounds every which way. And shooting after dark with night vision should also be banned. Pistols too, because they don't really have sufficient power to put big hogs down quickly with one shot. Rifles firing expanding bullets are inhumane. We should ban those. And any bullet than contains lead too, for environmental reasons.
Actually, I think that we should ban all hunting of hogs with any weapons. It is brutal and inhumane. It causes undue suffering. It results in animal deaths.
Instead, to control the hog population, we should capture males, sterilize them, and release them back into the wild. That's the only method both effective and humane.
Please, pass me another cucumber sandwich.

sheephunterabHad a call from CBC this morning to comment on this but I declined. Watching animals bleed to death is never going to look good no matter how fast it happens.
16 August 2016, 01:10
medvedif the antis needed that to be against the hunters lol ...
is it legal? yes: so why bother.
we are our worst enemy, seems forget most of our local hunters are against elephant hunting or lion just per say ....

I wish you had accepted. Maybe the AFGA (Alberta Fish and Game Association) would not have been asked to comment instead. What the hell is up with the remarks from them?
The AFGA has been telling me for years that they are in full support to keep spears and atlatls legal.... and now this.
Maybe this is good, as it shows that someone from this organization is not trustworthy.
Man, am I pissed that our main hunting organization has pushed us under the bus after promising "I've got your back."

That too would have been my preferential choice but it all seems to be going pear-shaped for Trump.
Who knows, he might be able to pull the rabbit out of the hat at the 11th hour.

tomahawkerDing dongs post videos of absolutely everything...like beheading people. It will continue. Other than his goofy antics, I have no gripe with the video. When talking to anti's or those on the fence, I ask "did you think that bear would live forever?". I can tell it never occurs to most and that brings an immediate change to their holier than thou tone. I follow up with roadkill #'s in the multiple millions and if you really want to make a difference start there. There is a few pics of (I believe) Ahmed after death that I've shown people. Of course the usual gasp followed by " how could they". I then point out he died of old age and those men and women protected him. Folks it doesn't occur to most people that animals die and there is very little anybody can do about it.

I saw this video months ago. The only concern I had was that people would get up in arms just because.... The content of the video is just like hundreds/thousands of others.
If this video and the actions of the hunter are deemed unacceptable, the game is over....
16 August 2016, 20:14
jhaneyThe antis claim that we hunt to satisfy our "blood lust". That always infuriates me, but this video, fuels that argument. When the non hunting public believes this is what we are all about, game over!
16 August 2016, 20:27
sheephunterabIf the guy had been dressed in traditional bushmen garb and walked up and solemnly prayed for the deceased bear, it likely wouldn't have been an issue. This isn't about spear hunting in any way. There's a big picture here but it's too big for most to see. Hunting will eventually be slowly eroded away until nothing remains. In different aspects we all have to shoulder some blame. At the end of the day, the antis are smarter than us and will eventually win.
16 August 2016, 20:36
SkylineA friend contacted me this morning........ the bear spearing video is making the rounds. He directed me to an on-line media news source called Huffington Post and it is front and centre on the main Canadian page. Big headline with picture of the guy with the bear and the spear.
Everyone can and will have their own opinion on this stuff, but the simple fact remains......... hunting videos of this kind being out out there for all to see in social media will be our undoing. I don't know how many times this needs to happen before everyone wakes up and smells the coffee.
You can rant and rave all you want that it should not matter, blah, blah, blah. The anti's are killing us in this battle. I see guys all the time on the internet saying "don't feed the trolls".......... well that is exactly what we are doing when people feel the need to post videos that you just have to know will generate a bunch of negative publicity.
Sorry, but as time goes by I can only come to one conclusion and that is that there are too many of us who need their egos stroked and need to be the centre of attention.
We are screwed. It is just a matter of time and if we do not collectively make some changes on how, what, where and when we are going to publish photos and videos of our hunts, we are going to see the end of international hunting.
The actions of some are creating a situation where we are all going to pay the price. A slow form of suicide by strangulation, as we provide the antis with the nails to seal the coffin shut.

medvedhello,
i respect truly Kelly and Jim advices and visions but on that one i am surprised that you think we need to stay hidden to hunt.
Alberta has announced that there will be a ban for spear hunting guess the antis won and i am already wondering what is next and it will happen without even youtube.
2 years ago in Yukon they wanted to shut down hunting bear from the road. we found out that the antis wanted at the end bsnning all form of hunting ...
so yes the image we are projecting is important but do not fool yourself: they want to take away the hunts and any kind or form of tools we are using for hunting ...
what about bow hunting? there is some among us that find it unethical wht not stop it?
we are our worst enemy, no need of any antis.
as i already said most of our local hunters do not see a good thing about elephant or lion huntings, ask around you will be surprised ....

These are the kind of hunters who:
a) Probably cannot afford an African full bag safari, Elephant or Lion hunt and finds difficulty in admitting it;
b) Are making statements of this nature
hoping that their restricted type of hunting will not be affected.
Maybe they are of the opinion that posing with a deer or several braces of ducks is innocuous and will go unnoticed.

medvedstay hidden in the closet wont stop the open agenda of the antis ....

MacD37What makes these things so bad is we try to appease these folks with logic, and we all know from experience that doesn’t work.
How many times have you heard these people say “well if you guys are so brave why don’t you go out and hunt these dangerous animals with a spear and see who gets killed then?”.
When someone does just that, the same guy, like in this case, says we are causing undue pain and a lingering death.
You can’t talk common sense with these folks because they have none! The only thing is they want to be right, not educated!
SO, IMO don’t bother with answering anything they write, and just treat them like trolls, and they will go away if nobody argues with them.

AtkinsonMost folks down in Texas grab a pig and tie its feet up and haul them to the sale barn where they bring more money alive..Its not that big a deal in the real world..Ive been on live pig hunts as an observer..Killing a pig under any conditions is pretty easy to do, they are not that vicious IMO..Any animal at some time will attack, some more than others.
