Paul ReedFirearms storage in Windhoek while sightseeing?
Apologies, probably a repeated request, I know I’ve seen the topic before but was not able to find it via a Search. If this is more appropriate to be in the Travel forum moderator please feel free to move...
I am hunting in Namibia in July for 10 days. After the hunt my wife and I are taking 8 days to sightsee and self drive through northern Namibia departing from Windhoek, north to Etosha, Damaraland, along the Skeleton coast and Swakopmund and finally back to Windhoek. I am looking at the cost of renting a car (what a shocker, over $125/day!) and would to not like to travel with my Tuffpak and rifle. Does anyone know if there are gun shops or other places in Windhoek where one can securely store the firearm for a time period and pick up for return home? Anyone have idea of costs?
Final if anyone has any information concerning the legality of traveling around Namibia with the rifle in the event that I cannot find storage as regards to the firearms laws I would appreciate the advice. To date all of the information I have been able to find says that it is legal (assuming safe handling, security etc) to do so.
Thanks in advance for any help.
Paul

Karl SHi Paul
With regards traveling with your rifles in Namibia- 100% legal, just keep a letter from your outfitter as well as your importation documents witrh you. I would rahter leave the rifles in Windhoek.
Try Hento Maritz from The Gunshop, on +264 81 124 3835 (cell), or +264 61 227 655 (shop). Tell him I said he should help you. If you have any trouble, PM me, or send email direct to karl@huntingsafaris.net
(NAPHA sometimes does storage as well)

KernelSteve,
Just curious as I'm planning on some driving there in July. How was the quality of the car you had in Namibia. WCH seems to have pretty good rates, but what kind of vehicles do they have?

AndersWhen we travelled around in Namibia, Zambia and Botswana back in 04 we rented a Toyota HiLux from
Advanced Car HireGood service and prices in the middle of Windhoek! They rent out theese for about 500 NamDollars a day, free milage..
We spent a night before and after this roundtrip in Hotel Furstenhof, and just left the rifles in a secure room in the hotel..
Worked perfect!

Paul ReedHi Everyone,
I've been away from the Forums on business, apologies for the delayed response. Thanks to everyone who replied, very useful information. I've now got about 3 or 4 car rental agencies to compare now including the Cardboard Box
The Cardboard Box Travel Shop who I have to say have been extremely helpful with other arrangements.
Thanks also to Karl for the contact for rifle storage at the Gunshop. I'll contact Hento for the particulars.
Thanks again,
Paul
