African Wingshooting
Hi all,

I'm interested in taking my father to Africa in then near future. His shooting interest is with wingshooting, not relaly having any cares in big game hunting. Me.... I want to go on a warthog-fest!!!

Every one I have spoken to in RSA says that they are not really set up for wing shooting for 2 people, and we are after some decent bags of say 50 head each/day (not doves and pigeons) especially if we can get n the guinea's and particularly the Francolin's.

Is there anywhere where this is possible or am I being unrealistic?

I Tried Argentina earlier in the year but it didn't really work out for us so I don't stand much chance of getting him to go there again unfortunately.

Best regards,

Fallow Buck, this is more than the general bag limit of 10 per day per person in effect most everywhere (that I know of). You might get away with it on a crop damage control permit.

I suggest you contact Stephan van der Walt on info@underafricanskysafaris.com to discuss your needs.

You might try Brittany Hosmer. She's based in South Africa and specializes in bird shooting (also has a full set of dogs for flushing, etc.). I didn't get to hunt with her. But I had great respect for the way she conducted business. Her father is a well known hunter among SCI circles in the States.

Senegal is v popular with French hunters, but with a 15 per day bag limit on guinea fowl and francolins. If you shoot your limit, they go after waterfowl, or doves or gangas.
Also the warthogs are some of the biggest in Africa, but I don't think you can bag dozens like in RSA.

Fallow Buck,
There is plenty of great wing shooting in South Africa if you have the right areas. We have vast acres of bird shooting land in the Stormberg Mountains of the Eastern Cape. We have Africas premier game bird the Greywing Partridge to driven guinea fowl and francolin, waterfowl(several species of duck and several geese), dove and pigeon I will send you a DVD and brochure if you would like. Please PM me if so.

As a matter of interest ... what is your idea of a "warthog fest"??

Hey Bahati,

I suppose it is a question of how much ammo I can lay my hands on.... Wink

Seriously,

I'd like to take eight to a dozen in a week, more if it is acceptable to the area. As long as the gun makes a noise a few times and the beers are cold I'll be happy.

When we were in SA last year we hunted with Ivy Safaris. Great lodge, excellent dogs and several different species of birds. http://www.ivysafaris.com
