In response to Les, just thought I would pull my post off the other thread complaining about SAA and start afresh, these thoughts below might have some merit for consideration !!!

Here are the current flight schedules with Emirates Airbus 343 FJY

Flights are ALL direct and daily, both from JFK to Dubai, and Dubai to Jo-burg.

JFK to Dubai : EK 202 - depart 23:30 arrive 20:20 ( flying time 12:15 )

Dubai to Jo-burg: EK 761 - depart 03:40 arrive 10:00 am ( flying time 8:20 )

Dubai to Jo-burg: EK 763 - depart 09:55 arrive 16:15 pm ( flying time 8:20 )

In summary:

The total combined flying time is therefore [ 20 hours, 35 minutes ]

If you DONT want to overnight in Dubai, then use EK 761 onwards to Jo-burg.

If you WANT one overnight in Dubai, then use EK 763 onwards to Jo-burg

The flight you use from Dubai to Jo-burg will be dependant upon if you want a same day connect flight out from Jo-burg to another city within the region as you proberbly need to take EK 761 as it arrives Jo-burg at 10:00 am

Just remember you are still using Airbus whether you fly Emirates or SAA, I dont know if the seating in coach is the same for both airlines.

MAYBE some [ smart inovative cookie ] in USA might take the [ buffalo by the horns ] and contact Emirates in USA and ask them to come up with a [HUNTERS SPECIAL FLIGHT PACKAGE] from JFK via Dubai to Jo-burg ( with rifles ) and one never knows they might be inundated with USA business from not only our forum guests BUT other American hunters ( the power of the internet is unlimited )

Mention to Emirates USA that AR might help market the package on the most popular FREE hunting forum in the world

I know from recent events that EMIRATES is expandinfg their tentacles around the world and they are a go ahead ( new image ) forward thinking company, who knows, Saeed might even have some input to offer as he is close to the ground and will surely know of or have some connection with someone from Emirates ???

It is 8:15 p.m. here in the wonderful Golden Isles of Georgia. I'm looking over the miles of marsh grass and cedar hammocks in front of my house . The sun is just a glorious memory, below the horizon, but still painting decaying thunderheads in the west into magnificant towers of gold, purple and pink.

I have a McClelland's Islay Single Malt in hand, poured over some crushed ice and am sipping the same between puffs on a Partagas Maduro. My wife and children are safe and content inside the house... I'm on the porch.. my dog is under my right hand (awaiting a scratch), the hand now resting on the arm of the rocker in which I sit and slowly bob.

My lap top is in my lap and from time to time I type....

Yeah.. I'll keep on my thinking cap... I live in Paridise, but I gotta get to Africa a better way!

Keep the ideas coming as I truly believe if there is a will there is a way to move mountains if we have to ....

The good thing is ( if the rifle issues ) are solved then with that extended layover time in Dubai that for those wanting a same day connect flight onwards I dont believe the delays will present a problem .... BUT as some are saying why not rather layover 24 - 48 hours maybe and see a small piece of the Kingdom, I think there are [ special transit visas ] allowing up to 48 hours layover !!!

You AR people are just wonderful, keep the thinking caps on and lets make it happin ... if it was later in the day I would pour myself a nice glass of Nederburg Red to celebrate BUT it is only 12:15 midday in NZ so I dont want to temp fate and start tooooo early, maybe a cup of ROOIBOS tea will do the trick

I went to the Emirates Airlines site and, just for drill, put in a couple of dates leaving JFK to Dar es Salaam and return in 2005. The details are below. I'll bet that a better price for ecomomy could be had, if all the firearms stuff gets solved.

I'm not at all aware of the ecomomy class conditions of Emirates, but I believe they fly 767's??? Business class lists a fare of 8k, but, too, I'll bet that can be bettered if negotiated. Who knows.

I've never been to any of the Middle East, much less Dubai. I know I'd have a great time, but anything will beat being locked up in an AirBus for life plus an electric chair.

I believe, at present Emirates doesn't allow the transport of firearms (or at least didn't two months ago). The last I heard from my inquiries is that they are working on the issue and WILL come up with a solution.

There is a lengthy delay in Dubai (at least to Dar es Salaam), and I'd suggest that a good travel agent could arrange a wonderful time in the "Las Vegas/DisneyWorld of the Middle East if you could stay 36 hours or so (fares, etc. permitting).

It would be really great if Emirates could afford to sell hunters a deal on Business Class to Jo'burg or Dar and two nights in a Hotel/Casino. I'll bet they could make good money for a ticket costing less than 4k... still much better than SAA and the dirt bag shuttle.

seriously now, we have just come out of an end of Winter style storm here in Wellington region NZ. Yesterday it was blowing 200 kms per hour and shut the airport, all trains, ferries as well, roof's blown off snow and sleet on the hills, today it is coming right so we live in hope only two weeks to spring ...

I was in contact with my brother Alan in SA yesterday, the weather regionally was marginal for his Cessna light plane to fly from SA to Zambia, so had to dealay for a day.

Saeed has probably got lots of guest rooms and if he doesn't like you he puts you up with Walter instead.

Emirates Orders Up to 13 Boeing Aircraft

Emirates airline to get first four 777-300ER aircraft during 2006, purchasing rights for other nine extend through 2012.

FARNBOROUGH, England - Dubai's Emirates airline signed a contract here Monday to acquire four Boeing 777-300ER aircraft and took an option on nine more in a deal worth 2.96 billion dollars at list prices.

The contract was signed by Emirates chairman Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al-Maktoum and the head of Boeing Company's commercial aircraft division, Alan Mulally, at the Farnborough Air Show, which is under way near London.

The first four 777-300ER (Extended Range) aircraft will be delivered during 2006, while the purchasing rights for the other nine extend through 2012, Emirates said in a statement.

Sheikh Ahmed said: "The 777 has proved to be an excellent aircraft for Emirates, and is extremely popular with our passengers, cargo customers and crew.

"The new Extended Range version will provide the reliability and the extra capacity for passengers and cargo which we will need. The low operating costs, renowned passenger approval, and the revenue capability from both cargo and passengers are the main reasons we selected the 777-300ER."

The 777-300ER has a flight range of 8,900 kilometres (5,563 miles), against 6,700 kilometres for the standard 777-300.

The deal allowed Emirates and Boeing to take centre stage in terms of civil aircraft order announcements in the opening hours of the week-long biennial Farnborough show, a traditional battleground for firms vying for orders and publicity.

The airline, which currently operates a mixed fleet including 21 Boeing 777-300s and 777-200s, said it would use the new planes to further its expansion and increase frequency on major trunk routes.

Next year it will take delivery of a separate batch of 26 777-300ERs from leasing companies as announced at the Paris Air Show last year, and by late 2007 will have a total of 51 Boeing 777s.

"When Emirates receives the 777-300ER, it will become one of three airlines in the world operating four members of the 777 family," said Boeing's Mulally.

"That's further evidence of its commitment to be one of the world's premier airlines."

Launched in October 1985 with two leased aircraft, Emirates expects to have a mixed fleet of 169 Boeing and Airbus planes by 2012.

The airline, which has been profitable in all but its second year of operation, also has 43 Airbus planes in service and 70 more on order including 45 of the new superjumbo A380-800s.

Hi Peter

Did a quick check with Emirates and they advsied no problem with "sporting weapons" on their flights and stopover in Dubai is no problem. Don't have written confirmation of this yet but am following up with the sales office on this and fares. I'll let you all know.

With regards to Air Namibia, they do offer great fares from Frankfurt and we have had a number of clients use them into Windhoek so as to avoid Johannesburg. So far no problems.

I was doing some preliminary checking on the cost of flights last month.

The cheapest fare I was quoted (from Canada) was a flight into the Middle East, then to JNB. Unfortunately, I don't remember which city it was into.

However, the cost was only $1750 Cdn., far less than any other flights.

I've flown JHB/Dubai/LHR and believe me you don't want to do it. I've never been so uncomfortable on a trip. Next time I'll spring the extra R1000 and fly JHB/LHR direct.

I have never travelled anywhere with firearms by air but if Emirates decide to carry hunters, they would be the best airline in the world to do this bar none. Their service is the best and even the European standards of Lufthansa etc are no match to Emirates.

If Saeed's national airline decided to start competing on carrying sportsmen in special packages, they could easily be the best airline in the world to do this.
