A Kadoma farmer shot and killed a man he suspected of poaching at his farm.
Peter Mugwambi (age not given), who runs Dansun Farm in Battlefields in the Kadoma district, allegedly fired seven shots indiscriminately, killing James Mlauzi and three dogs in the process after he found him combing part of his farm in search of a wild pig that had sought refuge in a burrow.
It is alleged that Fanuel Kamurai, who works for Mugwambi, came across five men with 10 dogs while looking for lost cattle.
Kamurai rushed to inform Mugwambi of the sighting, who in turn armed himself with a Mosburg shotgun and rushed to the scene where he fired seven shots indiscriminately, killing the three dogs on the spot and hitting Mlauzi on the left hip and under the left armpit.
He immediately left the injured Mlauzi, who was later taken to Turf Clinic before being transferred to Chegutu District Hospital and then Harare Central Hospital where he died.
Police have since arrested Mugwambi and recovered the shotgun.
Acting Mashonaland West police spokesperson Sergeant Augustine Matsapa confirmed the incident, adding that Mugwambi was assisting police with investigations.
Mugwambi is expected to appear in court soon to answer to murder charges.
Pretty good talley for shooting "indescriminatly"!
Too bad he will be charged with murder rather than justifiable homicide.
