Pictures of big tuskers!
Does Elephants with tuskers like Ahmed here still exist in the wild?
And does anybody have more photos of heavy tuskers like this one?

Thanks,

there's still some big tuskers out there. If I was smart enuf to post a picture I've got one from a ele in krueger park that is quite the old fellow. (one of my revolutions for new years is to post picts) there are a few other big ones in krueger and other parks. Mozm. especially in the northern parts are supposed to have eles over 100 #'s running around. I'd be glad to chase after one if'n our govt would let us import them. Hopefully there will always be some of those big guys around to dream about if nothing else

The Elephant Hall at Letaba is well worth visiting if you are anywhere near the Kruger Park. My wife and I visited there last June, and it was fascinating to study the differences in these magnificent animals. We didn't see any of the big elephants currently in the Kruger, even though we saw a lot of elephants and spent quite a bit of time in the arease where several of them are found.

Thanks Kathi. Angelo Dacey makes an appearance in quite a few of those.

Here is a photo of my daughter next to Mafunyane, in the Letaba Elephant Hall

And here is a nice tusker I photographed in the Letaba River, about a kilometer from the camp. He's a relatively young bull for such ivory.

And this bull was east of Satara Camp. He carries his weight the length of his tusks, and is a heavy bull. I never got close enough to get a good feel for how big he truly was, but he's an old bull with wonderful ivory.

Here's one more old Letaba bull. I took this photo from the patio behind the restaurant at Letaba Camp.

Tsavo East in Kenya had a group of super Tuskers.
Dont know if they are still there but there were a few 100lbs plus elephants there.

Isilo in Tembe game reserve , Northern KZN is supposed to be one of the biggest known bulls today. http://www.tembe.co.za/isilo_tusker.htm

Just out of interest there have been a few 150lb plus tuskers out of Kruger in recent times. Duke is one of them.
I think they are still out there, just not in many of the hunting blocks.
Like the old saying goes, if you shoot big buck, they will ever grow into really big buck.

Wonderful to see these great old gentlemen. Sadly, their days are numbered as the poaching rings track then down.

This elephant was known as Shawu, for the Shawu valley close to the Lebombo mountains north of the Letaba River. Was also known in Afrikaans as 'Haaktand' referring to the curvature of the tusks. If I remember correctly he had the longest teeth of Kruger's Magnificent Seven.
