reddy375Anti Poaching patrol in Burkina Faso
Just wanted to share some photos of the front line against poaching in Burkina Faso. Unlike Mali, Ivory Coast, Niger and even Benin, Burkina Faso has so far managed their wildlife pretty well which is amazing given that it is one of the poorest countries on earth. As you can see from the photos the rangers don't even have proper shoes or handcuffs or proper bicycles to get around let alone 4wd vehicles etc. While local poaching goes on for bush meat as anywhere in Africa it is not that big relatively speaking. However poaching of elephant is on the rise. It's interesting to see that a lot of this poaching is taking place in the off season when there are no hunters about or in the National Park where there is no hunting allowed!

Don't get me wrong the density of game is really pretty amazing. I will be posting a report shortly from our first hunter.
I will be doing my best to help with some funds and persuade the locals to do more when I am there next year. Hopefully I can persuade the wildlife authorities to give us a hunt to auction off to raise some funds towards this effort.
