SOUTH AFRICA WINES. USA PURCHASE?
SOUTH AFRICA WINES. USA PURCHASE?
Folks. during ourt recent safari to Zimbabwe, my wife became very fond of a SA wine from the Boland Kelder Wineries. I have been unsuccessful in locating a distributor here in the US, as well as one for Castle beer. I figured thtat if there was a way, I'd find it here on AR. thanks, jorge

shakariJorge,
You can e-mail the vinyard direct at boland@wine.co.za and they should be able to tell you if the have a US agent......can't help you with Castle beer though.

When you get the Castle, I'll come drink it! As a matter of fact, I'll drink a Tusker for you in 14 days!

bwanamrmJorge,
Try a google search for africahut.com. They are/were based out of California and had quite a stock of African goodies from wines and beer to food. Terry Carr turned me on to them but I haven't ordered anything in quite awhile so can't comment if they are still around.

BOWHUNRJorge,
You might try contacting Hailey at African Traditions. They have a large selection of S.A. wines and have Amarula. I doubt she can help with the Castle though.

farktoofTry your local Publix, Kroger as they carry some SA wines.
Castle is another story although there are talks that it may be available everywhere in the near future.(SAB bought Miller Breweries or the other way around?)
When all else fail, you can get anything on the net.

Thanks, folks, no luck as yet but I'll let you know. jorge

LHowellJorge,
I bought a bunch of wine from African Traditions at the SCI show, and they had Castle beer too. They are located in Florida on the east coast somewhere.
The Casle beer was in cans though and, to me at least, is not as good as in the bottle. I have found it here [Clearwater] in bottles at a "Beers of the World" shop - expensive but it can be found.
If you get over this way I have some cans in the 'fridge!
Good Luck
Les

SnakeLoverJorge - the link Jim provided has Castle beer listed at $1.89/bottle. Click on the "more world beers" and far right side, 4 rows up from the bottom you'll find it. Specific link below.

SunshineActually you should order wines from South Africa's only winemaker who is a licensed PH as well. I'm talking about me...

NitroXI'll drink to that.
As goofy as this sounds, and since you live in FL, try Publix. The one near me has a selection (albeit small) of SA wines and one of the managers has told me that if his distributer can get it, they can special order whatever I want. I get Longneck (halfway decent table wine), Footprint from Western Cape and Goiya. They are imported by Shaw-Ross Intl Importers of Mirimar, FL (Longneck), Simon Intl LLC of Coral Gables,FL for Wiggeman's Trading (FootPrint) and Hemingway and Hale of Irvine,CA (
http://www.hemingwayandhale.com for the Goiya). Only prob is they all contain Sulfites as per US law, so they may not taste exactly like their counterparts sold abroad. HTH

Just ordered a 12 pack of Castle Beer in 12oz bottles. Shipping to Washington State $39.68. I will put it on ice and let you all know how good it "was". It might cost alot but the memories are worth it.

I never miss the opportunity to purchase Amarula on the flight back to the US. It was $8.00 but now has gone to $10.00 per bottle. But that's still a deal and makes a great Christmas gift.

baboonConsidering that Castle brewing of R.S.A. owns Miller brewing in the U.S. mabee if enough folks get together they will start doing limited runs of Castle fou the states.

NitroXMy guess Castle is not a premium beer. It is much cheaper to make beer in a country than export it, but for premium beers the margins allow it.

baboonOk I no longer drink beer but for those of you who do I wrote Miller who are owned buy Castle. Here is their responce.
Thank you for inquiring about Castle Lager.
While a great beer, it is only available in a few markets in central
Florida
and not available in most of the US at this time. We do not mean to
make you
even thirstier for this great lager, but we've included the link to our
Castle site if you would like to read up more about the great beer:
http://www.castlelager.co.za/SAB/We appreciate your interest in our company and we will be sure to let
our
markets know that there is a larger demand for the product.

Wonder where in central Florida? might be worth a "road trip." jorge
