Thought you might enjoy some eye candy:
Three (g)old daga boys:
The rare, golden black rhino:
Guess the maker, model and caliber, and you might win . . . bragging rights.

Wilderness is my cathedral, and hunting is my prayer.
Stunningly beautiful!
Peter.
Be without fear in the face of your enemies. Be brave and upright, that God may love thee. Speak the truth always, even if it leads to your death. Safeguard the helpless and do no wrong;
Interesting, a nice work of art, but I am a little more traditional.
Thanks for posting.

vapodogI agree. It's a real treasure and the artist should be very proud.
The gun appears to be of recent MFR and I'll guess Kreighoff.

That's very nice stuff, but would you take something that purty out into the bush? I'm afraid it'll probably be a well guarded safe-queen.
Why not hunt with it? You can insure it for a couple of hundred dollars against loss. Your Homeowners will cover any damage.

I'll bet there are a lot of people on this forum that have cars that cost as much. They drive 'em too I bet.
Rifles are meant to be hunted with. I bet it shoots as well as it looks.
The white egret accents on the backs of the daga boys is neat.

I'd take a Merkel and spend the money on hunting.

I didn't know Weatherby made doubles.

H&H Royal sidelock .577

<allen day>That rifle is a Holland & Holland, alright, but I don't know about the caliber.
Pretty, and I have no doubt it's functional, but I'd rather invest in a good bolt gun and put the rest into a top-notch safari or two......

Use Enough GunThanks for the sugar and spice. Beautiful gun. Work of art. I'd use it.

Michael RobinsonIt is a Holland & Holland Royal in .700 caliber. It was built in 1993, as one of a set of three (the others are in .375 and .577).
All three rifles were engraved by the Belgian master Phillipe Grifnée, but the .700 is the most elaborate and beautiful, IMO.

Nickudu"Eye Candy" for sure. Just fabulous. It's good to see the gunmakers arts are alive and well. I especially like the woodwork.

I knew that was Phillipe's work.

The proportions of the action do not give you the idea of it's size. It could be any caliber. The difference between a Best Gun and the rest.
I bet it has been hunting also. Probably an Elephant in Bots.

MinkmanIts a nice rifle, but that .375 with the baked enamel finish on the BigBore forum looks better!

Maybe. But I doubt it.
Last I heard, it was still owned by Bob Petersen and unfired NIB.
But, if it was mine, I'd use it. If one can afford it, one can afford to refinish it!

OldsargeWell, you have to remember that Mr. Peterson is a mult-multi-millionaire. If his fancy resembles that of a Victorian Rajah, he certainly is in a position to tickle it. The man built an entire museum about the automobile and
gave it to the County of Los Angeles!
Sarge
Holland's .375: One Planet, One Rifle . . . for one hundred years!
In the case that double looks positively "evil". But very nice.

Yes, this does add perspective.

Oldsarge,
OK!
I understand

I should add.
It's probably people like Mr Peterson thats keep the British gunmaking industry living

If Holland & Holland should live on my orders (a tie in five years) they would go bankrupcy before you have read this message

Husky
It looks expensive and that is what a gun like that is made for... To look expensive. Personally I prefer a more subtle touch of class. But if one is in a position where it is important to make a point about social status then that is certainly the kind of gun(s) to buy.
I can only imagine what the PH would think of me if I carried that sort of equipment on a hunt.

Clark7781BEAUTIFUL WOOD!!!!!!!!!!
24 May 2005, 19:31
Jeff WemmerUgghhh! Is the hunter going to dress-up in a "3-Musketeers" suit, complete with Peacock feather festooned hat to go out shooting?! That thing belongs above the fireplace mantle at Versailles right next to a bust of Louis XIV!!
Over statement of the "art" of the gun I dare to say. But, beauty is in the eye of the beholder afterall, so whatever!
God I love this forum!
