I recently received a message from a Namibia Outfitter indicating there is a huntable population of SITATUNGA in Caprivi Strip.
Can anyone verify that and point me to a viable outfitter to hunt one up there?
I have inquired with the original outfitter several times, no follow up so far. I have also inquired with two others hunting the concessions, still no verification?? Maybe still hunting?

I personally would check with Jofie Lamprecht Safaris.
Even if he did not hunt them, you could trust him to steer you to someone reputable that does.

I have a very vague recollection that there were sitatunga in Mahango Game Park along the Okavango River. I don't know who has the concession now, but Boet Nell had it when I was there in 2009.

In October of 2011, I hunted Elephant in the Caprivi with Hentie Van Heerden in the Dzoti Conservancy. We had an extra day to kill, so Hentie took me on a float trip down the Kwando River, where he shared an additional concession with another PH. We were mainly fishing, but took our rifles along in case we got an opportunity for Red Lechwe or Sitatunga. We saw a couple sitatunga cows, and about 6 lechwe. We put a stalk on a nice lechwe, but it only had one horn.

Like I said, we were mainly fishing. If a hunter really targeted sitatunga, they have some sucess.

Thanks very much guys! I have been using the time since the post to e-mail with your suggestions. Hentie does have one Sitatunga permit for Dozti Island for 2013 but it is sold!! The same hunter as this year....collected it in 2 nd day!..and coming back...$1000/day and $8500 Trophy Fee. Only chance would be if his client doesn't shoot....then I could follow up on a later hunt....still pretty expensive...

Yup, you bet!! I am looking at that as well....I really like Zambia and it would give me a chance to go back to NW Mozambique with Carel Maarten's camp for a visit....huge Hippo and Croc...and lots of opportunity for Tribal quota for celebrations if you are lucky!!

470EDDY, there are 3 areas with sitatunga on quota, namely Dzoti (Hentie's), Kwando, and Bamunu. I would not try to hunt them at Kwando, Bamunu has two, as far as I know the only area with 2, but I do not know if they did re-sign with their current operator. If they did, Hentie would be your best bet.
