Looking for recs for a free range hunt in Namibia for next year. This would be a family hunt, with 4 hunters and 2 observers. Some DG on offer would be great, but not required, the more important thing is the quality of the experience.

Jeff PWell....for quality of the experience....move east across the border and go to Matetsi in Zim. I took my wife and 15 year old daughter this year, and they had a blast. Camp was first rate - they went to Vic Falls with a day guide several times and did the touristy stuff, and they came out in the field and we saw all kinds of animals every day, including 150+ ele one day.
There is DG on offer - they have buff and ele and a wide variety of PG. See the hunt report and talk to Mark Young. You'd love hunting with Gary....

Any of these would give you an outstanding experience.
Omujeve Safaries
Leopard Legend Hunting Safaris
Omajete Safaris
Jamy Traut Safaris
Another vote for Jamy Traut. He hunts on the largest continuous/adjoined concession lands in southern Africa. He has access to the most prime hunting area in all of the Kunene region. He also has hunting concessions in the Caprivi, Waterberg, and Kalahari regions. He is one of the best in Namibia and Namibia offers the best open wildveld hunting areas remaining in Africa.
Namibia concession hunting is open veld hunting. You never know what is around the corner and it might just be a whole lot of nothingness but the high desert scenery in the Kunene is jaw dropping. Just depends on what type of experience you're after. Jamy is a regular as DSC, so he you can always go and meet the man before you book.

crbutlerWith the drought there, Namibia might not be the destination for plains game it has been for a couple years until the drought ends and populations stabilize again.
Of course, it can also mean some unique opportunities.
You need to really do your due diligence on this one.

+1. What CR said.
Most of the southern 4/5ths of the country (mostly everything but the Caprivi) has been wracked by drought for several years. Where game populations have not been impacted too severely you may find some outfitters who want to kill off some in order for the rest not to starve. Some good opportunities might be found, but be aware.

dogcatBeen there three times. Would highly recommend Kowas. For totally free range and a wild experience for Namibia prices, take at look at Tholo Safaris run by Clive and Linda Eaton. Best kudu I have ever seen. Very good value as is Kowas.

wesley timmermanYou really can't go wrong with Jamy Traut. We have hunted twice with him and everything was great. You will love Namibia and Jamy will treat you right.

rodellHagen and Birgit at Omatjete Safaris are first rate. You would be the only group there and would be treated royally.
I highly recommend them.
