Lazzeroni Rifles on African Big Game

<Caveman>Lazzeroni Rifles on African Big Game
Anyone use any of the Lazzeroni calibers on African big game? Which one? How did it perform?
Corey,
I have used the 7.21 Firehawk, the 8.59 Saturn and 9.53 (Titan?) in Africa. They all performed very well. Just like all other caliber I have used in the past.
If you hit the animal right, he dies quickly, if you don't, you have to chase him for miles.

DB BillCorey....I took a 9.53 Laszzeroni HellCat (.375) on a 15-day buffalo, leopard, etc hunt to Zimbabwe and it worked fine. The HellCat is based on the Lazzeroni Patriot (.308) which you probably know is a short case tthat because of its' diameter delivers .300 Mag performance. My HellCat easily duplicates the performance of the .375 H&H but I like the handling of a rifle with the short-action. Weight of rifle and Swarovski scope is just less than 8 1/2 lbs. Performance was 300gr Nosler at 2550 fps with a lot of one-shot kills including buffalo. Accuracy was superb. I don't care for the larger, original Lazzeroni cartridges as their very fast velocities tend to be barrel burners and provide more performance than I can take advantage of...I can't image taking a shot at an unwounded big-game animal at 500 yards (or even 400).

Mike_DettorreI used a 8.59 galaxy on both eland and black wildebeest worked great.
Also shot smaller stuff with it but they were really no challenge for any cartridge.

What I have learned on AR, since 2001:
1. The proper answer to: Where is the best place in town to get a steak dinner? is…You should go to Mel's Diner and get the fried chicken.
2. Big game animals can tell the difference between .015 of an inch in diameter, 15 grains of bullet weight, and 150 fps.
3. There is a difference in the performance of two identical projectiles launched at the same velocity if they came from different cartridges.
4. While a double rifle is the perfect DGR, every 375HH bolt gun needs to be modified to carry at least 5 down.
5. While a floor plate and detachable box magazine both use a mechanical latch, only the floor plate latch is reliable. Disregard the fact that every modern military rifle uses a detachable box magazine.
6. The Remington 700 is unreliable regardless of the fact it is the basis of the USMC M40 sniper rifle for 40+ years with no changes to the receiver or extractor and is the choice of more military and law enforcement sniper units than any other rifle.
7. PF actions are not suitable for a DGR and it is irrelevant that the M1, M14, M16, & AK47 which were designed for hunting men that can shoot back are all PF actions.
8. 95 deg F in Africa is different than 95 deg F in TX or CA and that is why you must worry about ammunition temperature in Africa (even though most safaris take place in winter) but not in TX or in CA.
9. The size of a ding in a gun's finish doesn't matter, what matters is whether it’s a safe ding or not.
10. 1 in a row is a trend, 2 in a row is statistically significant, and 3 in a row is an irrefutable fact.
11. Never buy a WSM or RCM cartridge for a safari rifle or your go to rifle in the USA because if they lose your ammo you can't find replacement ammo but don't worry 280 Rem, 338-06, 35 Whelen, and all Weatherby cartridges abound in Africa and back country stores.
12. A well hit animal can run 75 yds. in the open and suddenly drop with no initial blood trail, but the one I shot from 200 yds. away that ran 10 yds. and disappeared into a thicket and was not found was lost because the bullet penciled thru. I am 100% certain of this even though I have no physical evidence.
13. A 300 Win Mag is a 500 yard elk cartridge but a 308 Win is not a 300 yard elk cartridge even though the same bullet is travelling at the same velocity at those respective distances.

Was that prior to, or sometime during, the last ten years?

LandrumWell, since we are on the topic of Lazzeroni cartridges --even if the thread is a decade old-- what has become of them? It seemed like the company was making some traction several years back but now the name is hardly ever mentioned.

Roy Weatherby...different decade...who cares.

Mike_DettorreBiebs...is pretty much right...I had one, interesting and fun but it is just another magnum cartridge that shoots a heavy for caliber bullet (call it an SD of .275 or better) at 2900 to 3100 fps in short action/long action respectively.
I think the .580 cause head didn't help them because it limits the action choices unless you are going to do a lot of extra work.
I am at the very bottom of the page...

RamhunterI don't beleive Lazzeroni is in business any longer. I shared a camp in Alberta with the owner, an avid hunter, a few years ago. His primary business was audio electronics for motorcycles (helmet stereo systems, communiations, etc.) That was his real money maker.
The rifles were a sideline, hobby, labor of love, but not profitable. He was planning on phasing out of them; but planned on maintaining parts and service. Haven't heard anything about them for several years now.

LandrumI wouldn't exactly equate Lazzeroni to Weatherby. How many decades has Weatherby been in business now?
I get the comparison as far as velocity is concerned but to mention those two names in the same sentence, whether or not you like Weatherby products, is a tad ridiculous, IMO.
But, like you said, who cares?

Dago RedBut you gotta love that they have great names. really, what sounds better 308 Norma, 300 winchester, or 308 Warbird. just sounds badass. scramjet, titan, meteor, love them names.

Meant in the vein of "nothing matters but velocity". T still remember Roy writing that the 270 Wby was all anyone needed for Cape Buffalo, due to its tremendous hydrostatic shock.
