TZ Areas for big buff? (Maswa vs. Kitwai)

observerTZ Areas for big buff? (Maswa vs. Kitwai)
After 8 years of hunting all over TZ without ever seeing that once-in-
a-liftime-buffalo I guess it´s time to finally do some proper research...
So I did some homework, tried to collect infos on what Masailand areas are best for seriously big buff but I got stuck with the following questions:
- according to this forum so far Maswa (probably the TGT part) seems to have offered the highest chances for a serious buff. Is that still true?
- In many parts of Masailand July or November is the prime hunting time. Does that apply for Maswa, too, or is September/October better?
- We were offered another Masailand area called Kitwai and the outfitter calls it an excellent place for buff. I cannot find any information on the net on this area, has anyone ever heard of it or even hunted there? What is the best time to hunt there?
Thanks to anyone who can give a little input!

BrettAKSCII have only hunted Tanzania once in a non trophy buffalo area, so I'm hardly an expert, but you might look into Mto Wa Mbu for a mountain hunt (have heard the concession in general is so so, but the mountain holds monster buffalo as seen on the Mountain Buffalo movie that came out recently). Adam Clement's Lolkisale and Luke Samaras' Simanjiro which both border Tarangire NP. Maswa would have to be on the list too as you stated although I have no idea as to which of the three parts is the best. If there are any concessions bordering the Ngorongoro Crater other than Mto Wa Mbu and Maswa they might be worth a look. Just some suggestions. How big are you looking for? 45"? 48"? 50"?

Rhyme of the Sheep Hunter
May fordings never be too deep, And alders not too thick; May rock slides never be too steep And ridges not too slick.
And may your bullets shoot as swell As Fred Bear's arrow's flew; And may your nose work just as well As Jack O'Connor's too.
May winds be never at your tail When stalking down the steep; May bears be never on your trail When packing out your sheep.
May the hundred pounds upon you Not make you break or trip; And may the plane in which you flew Await you at the strip.

415sbairdWeek before last, my son had a 50" cow buff walk past him while stalking in the Simanjiro area. Great place for a two buff hunt.

MARK H. YOUNGobserver,
It would be extremely difficult to beat the big buffalo that come from Lokisale and Lobo on the Tarangire border. People that have hunted these areas will be more than happy to tell you about the hunting, quality of camp etc.

SaeedBig buffalo are where you find them - purely by luck.
Anyone tells you otherwise is not telling the truth.

mufasaI was in Maswa three weeks ago and shot a buff most folks would think is big. I also saw but did not get a shot at two other buff that were in the 44"-46" range. Here are a couple photos of the buff.

observerHugh,
Kitwai is a concession of Tanganyika Wildlife Safaris located in eastern Masailand.

Michael Robinsonobserver, my understanding is that Tanganyika Wildlife Safari offer safaris in Kitwai for all of the East African species (except Tommies, which are not indigenous to Kitwai) and the big cats, but do not hunt there for buffalo.

jeff hAgree with Seed, but will add in the best area's you still need to be there the right time of year.
Those buff pic's are off the chain.
Congrads. You can't shoot any more now save some of those monsters for the rest of us.
