Tanzania This Year
Just out of curiosity. How many forum members are booked to hunt in Tanzania this year?I am trying to see just how much these people will hurt if this goes bad and we have to cancel our hunts.
Three of us are booked to hunt the first of October for a ten day buffalo plains game hunt with two buff trophy fees included in the up front cost. If the hunt goes through and the prices stay as per our agreement, two of us are considering extending our hunt to fourteen days and getting a 21 day license. If the proposed price increase takes effect next year I will never be able to hunt in Tanzania again.
What a shame that for most people the ability to enjoy a hunt in a country as beautiful as Tanzania is going to come to an end.

Sept 13th-23rd also. If the price goes up, the PH will just have to trust me for it.

From the few people I have spoken to even people that can afford it will not go. I have a friend that basically hunts with no budget and he will not pay the new fees and is going to cancel his 2008 and 2009 safaris. Both where 21 day's and he told me he expected to spend 100k on each trip.

Maybe it is because he has been several times, but with an increase anything like they are talking about he says he is done.

Not sure how many other people feel the same way but the outfitter may be hurting.

been once- will never go again if the prices increases stick( which they almost certainly will starting next year). you can hunt the same animals for a lot less in other african countries. why spend your money supporting a bunch of greedy bastards? Tz is NOT the only african country offreing big game in a fully free-range setting

I leave next Saturday for a 21 day safari (or at least I hope so!) As all of you know, a large part of the joy of safaris is the anticipation. Unfortunately, this present mess has replaced the anticipation with worry.

The hunters going to Tanzania within the next two months. What sort of feedback did you get from your outfitter/ph with the latest increases?

I received an email from my outfitter about a week ago. They said they were optimistic about a good outcome but, if not, the fees would be passed on to me. I, likewise, will be interested to see how other outfitters react.

Got an email from my booking agent and they don't know any more than what we've been reading here and on Huntreports.

Just got back last night.

The newspapers in Dar had headlines that the increases were passed however I did not see any dates that the increases would take effect.

Pierr'e has people in Dar trying to find out but at the time I left they did not know.

Into my heart on air that kills
From yon far country blows:
What are those blue remembered hills,
What spires, what farms are those?
That is the land of lost content,
I see it shining plain,
The happy highways where I went
And cannot come again.

Leaving Sept.28 for 7-day hunt in the Selous with my wife as observer. Booking agent holding funds till more is known. Hopefully I won't have to cancel because of new exorbitant fees!
