Don't forge to update your Tetanus and maybe even Polio too if your Doctor thinks appropriate.

As long as your there anyway...

I got the Hep A series the first safari I went on and have now begun the Hep B. Mostly, I got it as sort of a 'good example' to my students who are required to have Hep B to enter middle school. The policy in California, at least, and probably the whole US is to begin immunizing against Hep B ASAP after birth. Eventually, this should lead to the complete extermination of the disease like happened with smallpox (hysterical rumors to the contrary) and is in the process of happening with polio . . . if we can just get certain ignorant Nigerian clerics to get the Hell out of the way! There doesn't seem to be any People for the Ethical Treatment of Microbes running around, so go ahead, help wipe out a particularly obnoxious species.

As others have pointed out-get the shots. I got mine from the county Public Health department for $50 each or $150 total. The series of three shots (A and B in each shot) takes 6 months as I recall so start now. Better safe than sorry.

I took the Twinrix vaccination before I went to RSA. IIRC, it was only $180 CDN for all three shots.

One should never compromise on health. I lost my liver due to Hepatitis .Am alive due to kindness of my donors family . I contracted Hepatitis from drinking just one glass of water while traveling in Bangladesh. So never travel without protection and treat the water that you drink with Pristine. Today I just read the forum and have a distant hope that I will some day hunt again before I join the great hunters in the happy hunting grounds and listen to their stories.

I don't particularly like needles, so before our first safari, we got a combined vaccine called Twinrix that covers Hep A & B.
