3 down with the 10 bore!
I decided to take the 1887 Hammond & Hammond 10 bore on my morning constitutional today - "Just in case". Well, as luck would have it I happened on a very large herd that was getting a jump on the annual migration. Pow, Pow, snick, reload, reload, snap, click, click, then pow again and it was over. I had a triple!

All three are very good representative trophies and just a few points shy of entry in Rowland Ward's book. I plan to send the original of the enclosed photograph to Safari Club International with a check for $3829.17 to get letterhead paper with a round gold sticker on it just to make the kills official. But I must say, the gun deserves the credit far more than I.

Three of the dead blighters was more than I could handle alone. So, I called for assistance in recovering the beasts. With my team's help we had the capes off in not time and ready to send out for shoulder mounts. I would have liked to have ordered full body taxidermy, the serious pose with bared teeth and extended claws, but we just don't have enough room in the caravan, what with the watering hole panorama and all.

I am also proud to report that no meat went to waste. The instant of the first report, the entire village was on its way to my location. With dozens of natives swinging machetes they made short work of the butchering and only a few people received any sort of serious injury. Spirits were high. Everyone was chewing on a piece or two and smiling the whole time. It was quite the happy sight, indeed.

The 10 bore is elegant but the story of the hunt and the selfless sharing of the meat with the locals gave me tingles. brian

Did they drop right there or did you have to track them very far?
What brand of clothing were you wearing?
Did you bet your life on your bino's?
Did you have evac insurance "just in case"?

You're a BRAVE Man. A hunt like this is not for the faint of heart!

What tracker dogs did you use, any Jack Russel's in the pack?

Will you use the back skins?

You might be able to sell the bones in China to recover some of your expenses.

Nice to see that you kept with the Weidmannsheil tradition.

How much did you tip your PH, Trackers, etc.?

Do you feel you were overcharged on your daily rates?

Did you use a Barnes bullet?

No, Cal, we don't pay trophy fees to rid the countryside of man-eaters. Heck, they should be paying us a bounty.

Naki, we let the natives take all the meat but after they left with the last load we gathered up a few kilograms of bones and made a large tureen of soup. We seasoned it with some nice little black pellets that were scattered about. The pellets tasted a little like pepper but had a pungent after taste we savored for hours.

Careful the anti hunters might get wind of this and get them declared endangered which could lead to a world wide ban on rodent ear importation! lol

Nice day afield!

My uncle had a friend he grew up with who skinned, dried and stretched pelts like those. This was back in the 1050's. As with the rest of his furs he mailed them to Sears. He got a check in the mail for 3 cents. His nick name for the rest of his life has been Mouse.

Thanks for the report,

Tom

Did you "let them choose how they were going to die"?

Was it "your life or theirs"?

Well done. That's a story to be relived over sundowners and a nice fire.
