JohnTheGreekOUCH! I would call bullshit. I paid a lot (and I mean A LOT) less than that for a bigger crate two years ago. Yes, yes, the rising price of fuel influences these things but not by as much as we are talking about here.
JMHO,

mark65x55Seems to be the going rate. This past Feb. I paid $2000+/- for a shipment from Namibia and $2400+/- for one from RSA

HonkeyGood info, I am waiting for a shipping quote on my taxidermy in S Africa. Could you tell me what is actually in this box. Such as Shoulder mounted Buffalo, Kudu or whatever. It seems pretty heavy relative to the size. I bet you have a bunch of wood and soapstone carvings.
Thanks
Honkey

LHowellBaboon,
If you want another opinion/quote -
Check with John Meehan at Fauna and Flora[jjmeehan@faunaandflora.com] about using his Ocean Cargo scheme in conjunction with Safari Air Cargo in Johannesburg. Ocean Cargo was significantly cheaper to Florida at least, not sure about Houston.
It's worth a call at least.

I'm ok with the quote.I heard that the dock fees can bring up the price on ocean freight in Houston. The biggest reason I would not go with ocean freight is ships have rats

Gringo CazadorThat looks kinda steep, I would give John as call as someone above mentioned. I think my stuff was 1300 total and than was to my door for one peddestal kudu mount, one sholder kudu, one shoulder WB, one impalla, Zebra rug and pictures and a big ass carving that was 6 ft long. Pietersburg (SP) to my door.

LHowellBaboon,
I think that all the Fauna and Flora Ocean Cargo shipments come in through New York then overland from there.
Rats...well, the trophies will be pretty well packaged, inside a sealed container, tanned hides etc. - can't be too tasty I wouldn't think.

I'd try getting a quote thru Novotrans. Just got a quote for one of my clients for a blue wb shldr, waterbuck shldr, blesbok shldr, impala shldr, zebra f/s and gemsbok shldr, air shipped, for $2300 to Chicago. Much bigger crate than you have there.
Hair, not Air!
