JBoutfishnFirst of all thanks to Hamendi for starting this thread. Steve, your additions break the heart
The reality of Africa and what is was and what it has become truly saddens me. The book titled
Gone Are The Days by Peter Byrne says it all.
When in Africa take in all you can, it will change, we can only hope for the better.

jetdrvrWhat a great time to have been there.
I've had many a cup of coffee at the Thorn Tree, but I heard somewhere that it's gone, too. That and the bookshop next door to the New Stanley, where I often stayed. I imagine I could feel old Hemingway's ghost prowling the halls, reading his obits.
And the most interesting thing I got from the pictures is the remarkable lack of vehicular traffic. The place is one big traffic jam, now.
JETDRIVER- I noted the same thing.Where was all the traffic?
Shakari- Your posts is a fine example of how a "Free Africa" has changed. Not for the better I fear.
We seldom get to choose
But I've seen them go both ways
And I would rather go out in a blaze of glory
Than to slowly rot away!
Yeah, where are the afterward pics ??????????
Better start taking the before pics here in the US. After 4 years of this m*nk*y, the afterward pics ain't gonna be pretty.
