whm7753Vektor Musgrave Mausers/Actions
I'm curious about any information that anyone may have on these actions and noticed in a prior thread a comment that the Vektor actions were in mothball due to an inability to market same. Would like to know what that is all about, and btw please let me apologize for an unintentional intrusion on that thread.
Thanks,
WHM

Thank you very much,I'd love to hear it and know more. Some 12 years ago plus i happened to read Capstick's "Sands of Silence" and I believe in that book there is a picture of a custom Musgrave made for Capstick. I was throughly intrigued especially in light of the fact that my Mom was in Namimbia then. I tried to talk her into making a trip to Pretoria and acquiring one, but no go. I thought it would be nice to hunt African game with a rifle like the South Africans; simple, stout, traditional, with no frills; people who are down to earth; "fair dinkum" as my Father used to say. Maybe, my perceptions are wrong, but I don't think so. I am planning, due to all of the lore of Africa for my first safari next year.
Would love the tutelage.
Best,

My apololgies if you feel I am speaking out of turn, but I have built rifles on both the Vektor Action as well as the Granite Mountain Arms Action. The GMA action is a work of art. I know Mike Roden personally and he has hunted with me in Africa. Patriotism and my personal friendship aside, you will be far better off in all respects with a GMA action.

WoodjackVektors need much more trueing and finishing($$$). Best spend that on a better made action to begin with(GMA,H&W).

Brad_RolstonHi Alf
Firstly, each and every component on the GMA action is new - no used parts were used as in the case of the Vektor action. Then, as Woodjack mentioned, there is far less trueing and finishing on the GMA action. You end up spending many hours polishing out machine marks on a Vektor. Lastly, for someone who lives in the US, it makes good sense to use the GMA due to the availability of spares, along with a far wider variety of magazine box sizes.
In Vektors defence, it is a fine action, which in the hands of a good riflemaker can produce a very good rifle.

AtkinsonFor what its worth you may find a Vector action from Butch Searcy if he still has any...
Granite Mt. actions or excellent, but there are no flies on the Vector action, its and excellent action..I have looked them both over very carefully and either one would suit me.

What used parts? Please specify?
My very good friend Casey Lewis had much to do with the design of the action and I have seen the finnished product and parts which Casey has and has kept out for himself.
Here is Casey's own words on how this whole thing came about.
Alf
Col. Casey and myself also had many a discussion, specifically over all of the aftermarket DSB Mauser actions. We both agreed that all of them were fine actions, and that any faults ( machine marks etc. ) were minor.
In answer to your question, the Vektor action in the white that I have in front of me now, has the following used parts:
Extractor
Bolt Stop
Cocking Piece
It is one of two of my own personal actions with which I will be building a 404 and a 450 Rigby .
In one of the earlier discussions I had with Casey, he mentioned the idea of a .750 inch or bigger diameter bolt. If this idea had been put into production, I would have used this action to build my 585, and probably never made contact with Mike Roden.
