craneRoss Perot Rhino Incident
As mentioned as an aside in the Africa hunting reports here, does anyone have specifics as to what happened?

mufasaNone of this is first hand but it's close because I hunted with the two game scouts in Mkuze that were involved in the Perot incident, Swanee and Gina.(both phoenetic).
Perot and his son were hunting with Robin Hurt. A rhino charged and Hurt shot it at least once with his 500NE but didn't stop it. Instead of getting away from the rhino's path where they usually run, both Perot and his son ran down the path away from the rhino. The son was gored in the butt or rectum and Perot was knocked or tossed into a thorn tree causing fairly extensive cuts and bleeding. I, of course know nothing of this but it was the talk of the safari circuit when I was there this past month. The rhino there will charge at or past you and if you are on their path this is what can happen. I believe both men were jetted to the States for medical treatment. Mufasa

Use Enough GunThe other problem in shooting a charging rhino is the fact that the large front horn blocks a direct shot into the brain, and it's hard to stop a charging rhino otherwise in that situation. I had that pointed out to me when I shot my rhino in August with PHs Brad Rolston and Ally Robins. On another note, whatever your political persuasion, it's still a tragedy anytime someone is injured on Safari. My best to the Perots on their recovery.

Heck, just the fact that he was hunting rhino has already improved my impression of him!
Hope his son is OK.

MARK H. YOUNGGuys,
The hunters were actually Ross Perot Jr. and his son (son and grandson of the Perot who ran for president) Garry Kelly was the PH. Robin Hurt was along because the Perots have hunted alot with him and Garry and Robin have collaborated on a number of hunts. You have heard very little about the incident because the Perots are very privte people. Nobody was permanently damaged and I understand the kid got quite a bit of mileage out of his wound with the other kids back at school.

eyedocI can certainly understand villifying Clinton but I find it a reach to blame Ross Perot for Bill"s sins.
We seldom get to choose
But I've seen them go both ways
And I would rather go out in a blaze of glory
Than to slowly rot away!

George SemelWell it's never fun to get hurt while on a hunt. Well at least they are alive to tell the tale. After all how many live after being thumped by a Rhino? As for H.Ross well the elder did get our beloved Bill Elected. That happens in a three way race. Water under the bridge if you will. We are paying the price for Bill and will be for some time to come.

MacD37H. Ross Perot Sr., is certainly not one of my favorite people after that election fiasco. However, his son Ross Jr., and the grand son are decent people, and shouldn't be branded with the sins of the father.

That being said, I hope there will be no lasting impairment from this incident to either of the guys injured!
I live within a short distance of the Perots (Jr. and son) and this is the first I've heard of this happening. It is quite evident the News people didn't get wind of this, or the TV guys would have had a field day for the anti-hunters
to clammer up an uprising about!

7x57I did not make the statement about Ross to bash him or make light of the injuries that his son and grandson recieved. I like the elder Ross but he did indeed give us Bill Clinton and I wouldn't give Bill Clinton standing room in hell! Bryan

Actually it was all those folks out there that believe what they read in the Enquirer is real.
Hell, they elected him twice, the gene pool in this country is getting pretty shallow me thinks.

Clifton ClowersUse Enough Gun said, "On another note, whatever your political persuasion, it's still a tragedy anytime someone is injured on Safari."
Sorry, but this just does not apply to megalomaniacal, jug-eared dwarves who purposely gave us eight years of Clinton just because he hated GHWB.

I am glad to hear that. (Even though I do not think R.P. helped the nation.)

Use Enough GunHaving been personally injured while on Safari and having been attended to by foreign medical specialists, I can attest that anyone who is sick or injured while on Safari gets my vote for a full and complete recovery, no matter who they are. I am sure that there are others here who have been sick or injured while on Safari that would readily agree as well.
