Tondwa is actually an old volcanic crater. from the camp which is about halfway up the side of the crater, you can see across to the other side and see the lakes


Just down the hill from the camp Terry had seen a good reedbuck a few times, and another client had shot at it and missed. So I did the same thing one morning. I did however kill the tree limb. The next day I had a chance to redeem myself and connected on the same reedbuck


since it was so close to camp we quickly dropped it off at the skinning shed and sent back hunting. We had been looking for a big warthog for 2 or 3 days. I was hoping for something in the 16" range since I already have a 14", but nothing that big could we find. There were dozens and dozens of pigs around, but all the same size. Finally out in the plains we saw a good sized hog cutting accross. It wasn't 16" be he was heavy and had perfect teeth. We made a stalk keeping brush between us and him, until we got about 75 yards away. The pig was rolling in the dirt and when he spied us he jumped up to get a better look. The 200 gr. nosler partition from my old sako 300WM hit him right on the shoulder and he dropped never knowing what hit him


I had used the old sako because my beretta we had switched barrels on and the 20 ga shotgun really got a workout. We kept the camp supplied in guineas and francolins, but the lake held knob billed geese, white fronted geese and spurwinged geese. We couldn't get close the the knob billed or white fronted geese, but there was 2 or 3 of the spurwinged tht came into range


The weather was hot and dry and the animals were coming out of the hills seeking the water in the lakes. Puku herds were all over the place, I believe that there were thousands


The area also had beautiful roan herds. I would have loved to have taken one, but sadly the wallet said no


The baboons in the area were yellow babos. Not having one in the game room I figured I needed to shoot another babo. There was one big male that kept insisting that the camp belonged to him, and was making a general nuisance out of himself, especially when I was taking a midday siesta. He did it once to often


Then one afternoon we had a surprise guest arrive. Bill Clinton had visited zambia a shot time before, and now it was hilarys turn

Nice reedbuck! I finally got to connect on a mountain reedbuck this past July but the common reedbuck has still eluded me.

I too, thought that Hillary was indeed a male preying mantis. Great pics and story butchloc. Glad you were able to take the camp nemisis out, once and for all. Sure is a nice feeling to pop those buggers.

You're killing me. Only 48 more weeks until I'm in Tondwa. I'm hoping you'll post lots of detail but not too many more pics, they're keeping me up at night.
