Photobucket Ransom???

D. NelsonPhotobucket Ransom???
It appears that Photobucket is holding my photos ransom for $399/year. Anyone else had this happen? Any suggestions?
Best regards, D. Nelson

Dead EyeMe too. Looking for other photohosting sites now that are iphone friendly.
Wont cave to photobucket after putting up with all their adds all this time.
29 June 2017, 18:35
SliderMaybe it's random? Mine still works? It must be a sign of things to come.
29 June 2017, 18:37
Gale JohnsonYes, I have a few guns listed for sale on here and they don't show the pics. I have renamed them Photo F@%K IT.
The site has always been really slow for me also.
Hopefully I can find a good alternative.

Don't hold your breath. A member of AR made a post down in the hog hunting topic area and shared some photos from his hunt, and photobucket pulled them.

it is the fourth post on the topic made by ScottfromDallas, all of the pictures he posted have been blocked by Photobucket.

MikeBurkePhotos are still on Photobucket. They are no longer allowing linking images to other sites unless you pay.

I went through a long period of back and forth (well, mostly me writing to them) about increasing my storage space, since they blocked my access when I went over the free storage amount. Took forever to get resolved but seems to be working now. I'm doing the $3.99 a month thing.
It is virtually impossible to speak to a live human being at Photobucket.
Are you sure about the cost you mention?

ghostbirdA couple of years ago there was a scam email that stated you need to change your Photobucket password. I ignored it and everything has worked fine. I know a couple of guys that changed there password because of the prompt and lost control of their account with money being requested to reinstate. Not sure this is Photobucket or an outside player.

After the time I spent on photobuckets website last night, I do not believe there is an outside player involved.

L. David KeithTed, what is the deal with "Block Plus" you mention? I've dealt with Photofu*kit for years and I must agree, they are a nightmare. Sometimes I can't sign in, other times when I do get access, it's a struggle to post, copy links and post here on AR. I only use them for AR and nothing else. If you delete a PB link/pic, it delete's from past reports you posted here on AR, so if you delete your PB account, all your photo's are gone on your Hunt Reports, comments etc. Anyone have a better alternative?

MJinesIn October last year I "upgraded" to the ad free version of Photobucket for $9.99/year. Since then I have to say that Photobucket has run much smoother, faster and efficiently in my experience. Just FYI.

D. NelsonMine is saying $59.99, $99.99 or $399.99 per year, not month! I'm going to pursue this and see what the deal is. I don't mind paying for it, jus not $399.00!!!
Any alternative info is appreciated.

THis is what I received also. I checked the Terms of Use and it says it was updated June 28, 2017. So something new! No way, I'm paying $399.00 per year or $39.99 per month!

crsheltonThis is a new PB policy that was reported yesterday on Leverguns.com .
IIRC, the policy is to charge the viewers of a pic that is not theirs.
As I understand it, existing users are not now impacted, but many are leaving to fins a replacement service.c

NakihunterCould you please elaborate on this.
I own several URLs with Go Daddy for my business. Most of them just redirect to the master website.
Please help. Thanks

Sure. Your domain is just your website address, e.g.
www.Nakihunter.com. In order for you to have full control over things, you'll also have to purchase a hosting account, which is a publicly available web space for you to host (store) your images (or website if you have one). I use the Economy hosting by GoDaddy which allows 100 GB of storage and unlimited bandwidth, meaning you can have all the traffic you want. They are having a sale on the hosting now.
So, your
www.Nakihunter.com gets assigned to your web hosting space so that when someone types in
www.Nakihunter.com, it points to your personal webspace (if you don't have a website, it just gives you an error. but that's OK). Once that is setup, you use a FTP (file transfer protocol) tool (I use the FireFTP add-on for Firefox) to move your images to your personal web space (There is also a way you can do it directly from GoDasddy's website). So, let's say you had an image called BigGun.jpg that you copied to your web space, the publicly available address of the image would be
www.Nakihunter.com/BigGun.jpg. You can use that image wherever you want to on the web.
A few caveats: It's a bit more of a manual process; unless you create an album in another program and upload it, people can't browse through your pictures (I like this fact myself...), I"m sure there is a mobile app FTP program, but I've never used one, I've never been in so much of a hurry to post pics that I needed to do that.
IN a nutshell, Buy a Domain (www.XXXXXX.com); buy a hosting account (right now 3.99 a month for a year); associate the two and use and FTP tool to upload pics so you can share them with a link that you own - no ads.
It's easier to do than to describe, and if you get on the phone with them they can walk you through it. Yes, it takes a few moments to understand how it all works, but remember, to the techie nerd on the other end of the line, a 130 TTSX over 55 grains of H4350 lit by a Federal 210 for MOA performance is as much a riddle as domain hosting is to you - point being, it ain't hard, just unfamiliar.
One can have as many photos as one likes in an HTML file.
Basically you can download a free HTML building program from the Internet, and create a page with all the photos you wish to have in one place.
If you look at some of the photos I post on the photo aBlum forum, many are posted this one.

Very good! I've not done it that way. For that matter, one can right click on a page, choose "View Source" and copy the HTML text, then change the picture links to their own, and voila!
Thanks for the tip!

crsheltonPB finally got around to trying to get my $$ for what was a free service. "("("( Bummer, a disruption in the force when I am prepping the family homestead in Dallas for sale!
What they do not know is that all of my pix are in my Dropbox account and the ONLY reason any were moved to PB was for display on a website.
So, now to begin to clean up the mess and stop using PB forever. Once done, this should reduce my keyboard profanity significantly!
I hope that many of their early users do the same.

When you register for an account on most Websites it tells you anything posted on their site becomes their property. I don't remember if PB did or not.

There support is good, but since nothing ever seems to go wrong I haven't used it much. Their premium membership is $79.95 per year and allows for storing up to 3500 photos or 200 mb usage. If you run your photos through an editor to get them down to about 250K size, realistically you are looking at 800 photos. Of course you can create another account (same email is allowed) and pay another $79.95 for another 800.
I don't store all my photos there, just the ones I want to share on the web, so 800 has been plenty so far.
