dogcatWhat did you book at DSC?
I did not book anything new but confirmed three upcoming trips and am prepping to book a fishing trip.
1. Headed to Ethiopia in May with Jason Russo's. Booked via Jeff Neal/ Greg Brownlee and confirmed all details at DSC. Jason Russos is organized and knows his stuff!
2. Confirmed a booking to Uganda in 2019. Booked via Jeff Neal/Greg Brownlee. Meet PJ Smythington to confirm details and get a gorilla tour on "quota".
3. Met Jim Fink with Blackstone Outfitters to confirm a sheep hunt in 2018. Will flange up at the Wild Sheep show. Deposit paid and workouts have commenced.
4. Met with Kursat and Temir Enkeler, WildHunting Turkey, to start a plan for another trip to Turkey (the best kept secret in the hunting world) and maybe Iran. Will book via Jeff and Greg when that is firmed up.
5. Met the folks at Baronoff Wilderness Fishing Lodge on a suggestion from a friend. Wow! I got to go here and catch a herd of fish. What a fine outfit and group of folks.
6. Met with Peter Flack to see his new projects, met his bride (incredibly fine lady who connected with my wife). You will be hearing more about SHAC and the Fair Chase Society - coming soon! Peter is easily the most respected hunter/conservationist in South Africa and likely all of sub-Saharan Africa. Go to his blog and website to read what he is doing.
7. Met Wendell Reich at the Tholo Safari's booth (he was next door). Great to see Wendell on the mend after a series of serious health issues. He has lost weight and is now at his "fighting" weight. Great guy!
8. Met up with the Tholo folks - Linda and Clive Eaton as well as Jason, our PH from last summer. What a class outfit! Best "deal", best place to go, best kudu I have seen. I am headed back when my grandson can get his rifle to his shoulder( he is 4 years old now, so when he is taller than a rifle, he is going!) or when cats are back on in Botswana. If you want a world class hunt for plains game AND get to see rhinos, leopards and other stuff - go to Botswana and hunt with Tholo!!!!
9. Stopped at Kowas, Ansie and Jacques Strauss were there. Super Namibian outfit! They now have limited leopard and buffalo in Namibia. Incredibly friendly and organized. You cannot miss with Kowas. I am ready to go back tomorrow!!!!
10. Of course, spent time at the Kuranui booth with friends Mel and Mort Moon. For New Zealand, these folks are the consummate hosts. You will be the only folks there and have a spectacular hunting area all to yourself. You will see great stags, fallow and world class Rusa deer. These folks baby you like no one else. Go!
11. Went and spent time with Jeff Neal and Greg Brownlee - these two are the "pro's pro" in the agent world. I have worked with them for many hunts- perfect service, perfect execution and great hunts. Have a Marco Polo hunt booked and others in the works! You deal with the owners when you deal with them...
12. Blaser, Blaser, Blaser (Biebs are you listening)- went to the Blasér booth, the Europtic booth and the Mad Dog booth - all selling Blaser's. So many choices, so little money. The more I see these guns, the more I want several. Wow!
OK - your turn! What did you book???

BiebsDC, sounds like your dance card is full! When you get around to considering a Blaser, let me know....there are a number of ways to lessen the "pain". With all the travel you do, for different game, I'm surprised you don't have one already!

Beretta682EA blaser professional package in 300 win mag to start.
Hunting is rather simple for me as I would book with tholo or save safaris if I go hunt Africa. But given the amount of taxidermy I have at tri-state and in Botswana my African hunting is probably limited to shooting meat/cull stuff.
I most likely will do a amazon fishing trip - trying to find a buddy who will be focused on same stuff - big catfish, payara and world record black piranha.
Spoke to 2 fishing guys who organize group trips - will book something for tarpon and snook.

Heeler75Ross,
I see you signed up for sheep again. I'll be looking forward to the 'I hate sheep hunting' report again.

I didn't attend DSC, but looking to try Zambia or Namibia this year or next.

I really hate sheep hunting. It is the demon inside that makes me do this. I feel like the multiple personality disorder guy that has this fight over what he wants to do. The normal Ross says "go to Africa, have fun, shoot a lot". The psycho Ross says, "go sheep hunting, suffer, enjoy the pain, shoot once in 10 days, stay in a tent with a stinky guide, eat crappy food..it is soooo fun".
I never know who to believe....

It is good to learn that I am not alone when it comes to sheep. I thought we were supposed to have better judgment as we age.

I must be a mensa candidate for always talking myself out of hunting sheep. Aoudad is as much sheep hunting as I will do,
