Believe it or not, I have heard it was chained! The lion too! ...

The ele in Hills film, as its receives hits from arrows, seems to be staying in the one close area
either side/around a large tree, .. I presume it could only move away from the tree as far as the
length of chain allowed.

Its good to read old stories of hunting adventures, but its also good to do some further research on
what one is reading.
EG:
Osa Johnson and husband did some grand adventures, they both got their pilots licenses and two aircraft
and explored remote areas of Africa.
but as it turns out they hired skilled pilots Vern Carstens and Sikorsky test pilot Boris Sergievsky
to get them through the aerial challenges of Africa.

I remember for a little while I tried hunting wild boar with assistance of dogs,
However i found that shooting rather conveniently chased down and bailed up swine soon lost is charm.
OK if your doing it to kill numbers of crop-raiders or fill the export meatworks freezer i guess.

It is pretty much accepted that Hill's elephant was shot in a leg with a rifle to restrict its movement for the filming.

Don't know about the lion.
