Jorge400I have to go back!
It's been almost a year since I returned from Namibia hunting with Vaughan Fulton's outfit Classic Safaris and I don't think hardly a day has gone by when Africa has not been in my mind. So I have decided I must go back. I've booked 10 days in 2007 with Vaughan again to hunt eland.
I don't know what it is about Africa. I took an exceptional mule deer in Colorado last year and have put in for several western tags this year, which I am looking forward to being successful on, but Africa is all I seem to think about. Somehow, I don't think this 2007 trip is going to completely scratch this African itch I have.

Charles_HelmI'm glad to hear that you got your trip booked!

I am making sacrifices in other areas (e.g. South Texas) to go back...

Many years ago, I heard a ditty quoted to me and it stuck in my mind.
"The spell of the tropics, it gets you worse than rum.
"You get away and you swear you'll stay.
"But she calls and back you come".
Welcome to the club.
Robert Ruark said something to the effect that a safari was one of the few good reasones to borrow money.
Nobody goes to Africa once.

"'Genetic memory,' Richard Leakey said succintly. 'That's
your answer. There's no basis in science. But people come
here from China, people come from Japan, people come
from America, and the vast majority of people
who come here feel something they feel nowhere else.
It's not just the wildlife. It's the place. If, as I believe,
it is a memory, almost a familiarity, it is very primitive.
It is the capacity homing pigeons have, salmon have,
to recognize, to go back. You feel it's home.
It feels right to be here.'"

huntinbuddyI feel you pain! I went to Africa in 04, and went to Argentina for stag this year. Now I am booking to go back to Africa. Argentina was amazing, but I don't think anything else can scratch that African itch! Now I just have to count down the days until I get to return.
