Blue Wildebeest - decisions, decisions?
Ever notice that once you have spent all that time stalking, and decided not to shoot, that the game then seems to sense that, and ignores you. Such was the case for these bulls.

Just not a monster here - I have taken a great old bull, and was only culling broken horns with my friend Corne` for lion bait or meat. These stood around and pretty much dismissed us as a threat!

This is my trophy bull - 30" wide, 15" bosses, and 57" on the curve.

That second from the left looks almost passable to me. I guess that's why I leave it to the PH to tell me if they're trophy quality or not.

I had an oryx that stood around and just walk away slowly because it knew I wasn't going to shoot it in spite of having one of the longest horns I've ever seen. That was the problem - only one horn.

Bwanna: Very good eye; up close at spitting distance he looked very good! Smiler

He was young tho, and didn't have the great big body of some that we had been seeing.

Blank,

That is a great blue wildebeest. I spent a couple of days just looking for a particular very big one in Zim this year. We found him but the PH could not promise he would be as big as I wanted so we let him pass.

Congrats!

Mark

They are all at least 4" wider than their ears on each side, and all have the length for good measure, but all also lack enough drop, and mass in the horn body, with bosses are not heavy enough. Still, certainly not bait animals!

Blank,

You got yourself one very fine trophy there. Congratulations!

Bwana & 375 fanatic,

How do you determine right & left? The second from left of my PC screen is not nearly the best in the group. The second from right on my PC screen - the one standing in front of what seems to be a youngster - is IMHO the best trophy. And what a trophy! The one standing alone on the far lest of my PC screen is also very nice, but narrower and thinner than the front one of the group of three on the ringht.

In good hunting.

Here is one they asked me to take for a full rug for the new lodge.

It had gorgeous stripes, all the way back on both sides, and hardly any scars at all. I do love to hunt these.

All this talk about wildebeest and which one is best just makes me itchy and very itchy as it is the next animal on my list to get a proper trophy of since this year it was my red hartebeest. The best blue wildebeest I shot up to date was a 26" very hard and old bull and tough. But 2008 is Blue wildebeest trophy time for me, now just to find one. Big Grin

I always try to use enough gun but then sometimes a brainshot works just as good.
