An Elephant Story

I'm going to the Dallas show for the first time, and was surprised to learn the Hilton Anatole, the club's host hotel, does not have an airport shuttle.

According to the Web, a taxi ride is about $40 each way, and something called a Super Shuttle is $19 each way.

I will be making three round-trips to the airport, which means I can spend $240 (plus tips) for a taxi or $114 for shuttles.

I could rent a car for the three days I'll be in Dallas, but then I'll get hit for the $15 day the Hilton Anatole chares to park there, and this doesn't include tips to the kids who park and bring the car.

I made the Dallas show last year, and also had to catch a taxi from the airport. Be careful, I was charged $70.00 to the convention centre!!!

Bill,

Last year I stayed at the Comfort Inn with a whole bunch of the AR hard core. JudgeG has once again made arrangements with that hotel and I suggest you contact him if you need details. I won't be going this year but last year there was a great feeling of comradery among the AR group at the Comfort Inn and there was always a way to hook up with someone to go to the show.

Ouch! One of the Hilton Anatole sites says the "average" fare is $40 one way. They obviously don't want to scare potential customers away.

I've been reading on the forum about the cameraderie among AR folks at the Comfort Inn, and it sounds like fun. But I registered at the Hilton Anatole because I want to be near friends from Africa who are staying there. I also will attend the Saturday banquet for the same reason.

It's worth the $200 in extra hotel costs to be closer to them for the three days I'll be there, but it bothers me to know I'll spend $250 and up, just to come and go to the airport.

Has anyone used the Super Shuttle?

Bill, I usually use that Super Shuttle. They claim that you will wait no more than 30 minutes before they depart. I've found that to be true. They stop at several places along the way letting other passengers off. If you aren't in a hurry it's okay. It's definitely the least expensive. I've always made reservations to depart from the hotel with the Concierge at The Renaissance. I feel certain it's done the same way at the Anatole.

Bill,

We have always taken the "Super Shuttle" from the airport to the hotel. It is the least expensive route and works fine. Upon leaving, we take a cab to the "Bass Pro Shop". Shop there and have lunch, then take their motels shuttle the rest of the way to the airport.

The Hilton rooms (last year) were not that much more than the comfort inn. The taxi ride from the CI to the convention center was $8 one way and the Super shuttle is the cheapest way from the airport to the area, my bill was $27 I think. If I go back I am staying at the Hilton, there is nothing close to the Comfort Inn and if you don't hitch a ride, the taxis eat you up pretty quick.

I asked for the DSC rate, and got a room for $156 per night, plus $23 in taxes. There are shuttles between the hotel and the show.

We stay at the Royal Inn on Northwest Highway for about 45.00/night and rent a car at the airport for about 45.00/day, on the weekly rate. Been doing this for years, plus the inkeepers are East Indians, so they have cricket on their tv. We spend what we save at the Convention and/or the boutiques scattered around Dallas.
