The hemophiliacs of RSA got infected before anyone knew about Hepatitis C, largely before the products could be tested for Hep C or HIV.
And why were you importing blood products from USA to RSA? Somebody had to do it, to assume the risk, to provide what others would not.
I do not see how RSA blood supply could be any better than any other system with state of the science handling.
Insect vectors of HIV and Hepatitis C?
If it happens, the viral quantum to infect would be much smaller with Hep C, which is much more contagious.
Any conspiracy theories about suppression of information on this?
It is amazing that 30 to 40% of adults in some countries of Africa are HIV infected.
What are the Hep C rates?
If insects were playing any role in this, it would seem that Hep C would be worse, even without any "risky behavior" transmissions.
Just in case a blood engorged insect lands on skin, fastidious sucker and nonregurgitator though it may be, don't squash it and rub it into your skin.

Your concern is of course warranted ITO sex, dodgy medical aid and of course administering or being given first aid when there is body fluid involved, take the standard precautions.
However without being rude I am utterly incredulous regarding the question above...I am honestly shocked that in 2009 people still think this is a real concern. I am sure even wikipedia could dispell this myth for you.
Just like wanking doesnt make you blind, nor can girls become pregnant from oral sex, insect bites will not give you HIV.
