Eland SlayerHere is the caption that Mike posted as well…
The true Grey Ghost of Masailand and we collected the Holy Grail of a Lesser kudu today. For several days we have been scouting for a big Lesser kudu. There was lots of passion, sweat, blood and walking envolved in this hunt. Humping up-and-down the mountains, we clocked over 16 miles on foot this morning in the harsh terrain of the Rift Valley and managed to spot +_ 20 kudu and turning down several bulls. Late in the afternoon I happened to spot a fresh track in the sand, thru my peripheral vision. We tracked the bull for over an hour but unfortunately he sensed us and took off in the thick brush. We continued tracking him and eventually got a shot at this incredible animal. After all the effort that was involved, the trackers found it fitting to pay their respects and sing for our hunter on arrival in camp. He displayed true tenacity and sportsmanship in pursuing this difficult trophy of a life time. This is no Easter Egg hunt and these wild animals don’t come easy! I also want to take this opportunity to thank @darkcontinentvideoproductions and particularly @garethdimmick for more than his great videography. Never complaining and always being upbeat, he is a great companion on safari and always works incredibly hard no matter the difficulty of the quest! To quote him, he said this hunt was mixture: “analogous to a Lord Derby hunt in walking distance and analogous to a Markhor hunt in altitude climbed! Pinnacle hunt achieved and so rewarding with an endorphin high for all! A great start to our new area in Burko, Masailand and many thanks to Bushman Safari Trackers Ltd.18 July 2023, 22:11

Judging from appearances he looks more like a tracker of Ndorobo origins than a Game Scout and the Mauser is likely to be Mike's preferred weapon of choice.

A bloody good choice. Looks like a double square bridge Rigby?

When I hunted CAR with Mike in 2012, he carried a .460 Weatherby, by Sterling Davenport. (IIRC) that may be the same rifle?
I shot my Bongo at dusk, from an elevated machan. It ran off into the very dense jungle. we waited about 20 minutes then followed up.
We had to crawl on hands and knees in the dark following blood. Mike kept warning me that if this things comes, it could get really western, really fast. We found him very dead after a short track. He drug that rifle along like his child whilst we crawled.
He also had a .22 Hornet by Sterling. I shot my small duikers with it. He's a fine gun connoisseur.
Great PH, Great Lesser Kudu.

Baker458Amazing!
What the record books should be for: To honor the animal. That's how I see this "world record." Just an incredible specimen.

I have reason to believe that the exposed rifle may be a 416 Rigby.

MJinesRifle appears to me to be a Rigby Big Game single square bridge.

My guess was good in so far as it being a Rigby and I was thinking likely a .416 too. Very nice well looked after workhorse too.

that is very interesting observation, I wonder if others in the blur camp would have done the same?

I'm torn on this subject. I just retried last week. Up until the time I sold my business, I always put what was best for my business, my employees, their families and mine, above my own interests or ego.
I have seen what can happen to a business when the dentist shot Cecil the lion. His employees and family paid the price.
Now, since I have no business interest, I would feel differently.
I'd be curious to know how Mike Jines feels about this subject. He's experienced harassment and is a respected member of this community.

Those who live in fear of the environment terrorists - that is what they really - should not be in the pictures at all.
But posting pictures with blanked out faces tells the story that the terrorists are winning.
We shouldn’t give them that.
Buzz got his knickers in the twist when I and other members raised this point!
Which really adds to the idea we are ashamed of what we do.
24 July 2023, 22:09
505 gibbsI agree that people should quit giving the appearance of shame, you'd be better off to keep it private if that's your position.

I agree 100% and have been saying so for years.
Unfortunately, the terrorists have turned some hunters into moral cowards.
Congrats to the hunter in this case.
