N'gagiLast minute insurance
In the seeming eternity leading up to my safari, I checked and double checked a million things, but true to my nature, I put off some of the important stuff to the very end.
I just realized I did not insure my guns!
I'm taking a custom .458 that has a 4-5k replacement value (even more in sentimental value), and a Model 70 in .375. I'm headed for Zim in about 36 hours.
I plan on adding extra insurance on my bags at the ticket counter, but I was wondering if I should have added insurance to my guns? Shumba, my hunting partner did...Anyone know how i can get my guns insured on short notice for the trip?
One other odd question...I have Halcion, not Ambien for a sleeping pill. Anyone have experience with these? What can I expect?
Finally, thanks to Mims for getting my Tufpak on equally short notice.
Thanks to everybody on AR..it's finally happening!!!!

RSEKYou might try Sportsman Insurance. I am not sure if you have to be a member of SCI or some of the shotgun shooting organisations.
Sportsman Insurance LinkThe NRA endorsed plan is an option.
Another way may be to put it on your home's policy.
You may have to get an appraisal of a custom gun. I was able to FAX the appraisal.
I used the Sportsman's policy for my guns that I took to Africa recently. The insurance was in place in about a day. It is cheaper than the NRA endorsed plan.

ForrestBThere's probably an insurance agent or two that can give you more complete advice, but here's a way to start:
Assuming you have homeowner's insurance, call your agent with descriptions and values for your guns. Ask him to insure them on a rider under your existing policy. Be sure there is no lack of coverage if you take your guns abroad. Your agent can probably issue binding coverage in a day or less. You should probably pay the premium before you depart, just in case.
Have a great trip.

NitroXTry adding them onto your household insurance policy especially if you use a good broker.

Russ GouldThe NRA has an excellent insurance program but there might be a cap on the value of each gun.

gas57You asked about Halcion. It knocks me OUT in 30 minutes or less and I cannot remember anything for six hours after taking one. I weigh 160 pounds and am 5 feet 8 inches tall, and in good health. Do not drink with it and be careful how long you wish to be out!!! It is not available in my country. Just be careful.

bobcI did sort of a last minute insurance also. I used collectables insurance agency (collectinsure.com). Their intent is to insure guns with collectors value that will not be used contantly. That fit with 3 of my guns including the one I took on the trip. It does cover loss on air transit. Premiums were extremely reasonable. Bob

tradewindsI used .25 mg of Halcion on my trip last month. I am 6'4" 215# I am not sure how long I slept but I had a good rest. I tried Ambien the year before and it made me sick. Unfortunately it does not make the seats in the Airbus any more comfortable.

30ott6I have tried both halcion and ambien. Halcion knocked me out but gave me a hangover feeling or grogginess when I woke up. Ambien does not leave me with a hangover feeling but I found that 1 pill was not enough and 2 pills to be to much. Next time it will be Ambien but I will take 1 and a half pills.

ArtsYour homeowners insurance probably already covers them, but poorly and with big limitations. Do you not have any firearms insurance? Most folks do, but if you don't, you might want to consider it for more than just this trip. Adding them on a homeowners policy (to get real coverage you do have to pay more) is probably the least desirable, most expensive way to go. You won't find a better policy for your firearms, at least in my experience, than through Sportsmans mentioned above. I would surmise you are an SCI member, so you fit right in. Per chance you're not a member, then ATA membership works, and I'm sure there are others I don't know of, but you have to be a member of something, as they are group policies. You can put whatever individual guns on it you wish, as well as scopes, binoculars, cameras, etc., each at your option, just builds the premium with each addition. I've found them good to deal with, only, and hopefully it stays that way, on the buying end, but I've known people that had claims and they were pleased with the outcome.
