I have hunted several areas of Zimbabwe, and my favourite is Chete, by lake kariba.

I have hunted buff in Charisa, Chete, Dande, Omay South and on a private ranch near Chiredzi. All were good. Dande has the most and biggest herds. Charisa has plenty but they are hunted hard. Dande South is communal land so they are widely scattered and in relatively small groups. The private land no longer has buff as they were eliminated due to foot and mouth disease concerns. Chete has some buff but I didn't see large numbers while there. I would hunt Omay North as they are taking some big bulls and many of them of them have radically drop horn type that I like.

I've only hunted five area in Zim but I think if I went back specifically for buffalo I'd hunt the Save with Mokore Safaris or Zambezi Hunters. The Save has plenty of buffalo and the trophy quality is excellent. Hunting there is just plain fun.

I would hunt in Chewore South. I think that is also OZ Hunter's favorite, but could be wrong.

I am going to be hunting buffalo in the Save with Zambezi Hunters in less than 60 days so that is where I like to go.

The average man's love of liberty is nine-tenths imaginary. It takes a special sort of man to understand and enjoy liberty; and he is usually an outlaw in democratic societies.

If I ever make it back to Africa, I intend to hunt a buffalo on the Save with Glenn from Shangann hunters.

Some pics from Save (Senuko - Shangaan Hunters) in 06:

Very good hunting with all the B5 around + all sorts of plainsgame - as Mark said great fun.

Doma - been there earlier this year - tough place, tough guys, tough buffalo - wouldn't be my pick if you are after your first buff and if you consider a failure if you don't end up shooting one - but if you are ready to learn something about the Nyati and yourself - hard to beat - I am on my way back there asap.

Yes Chewore South comes to mind, as well as Dande - haven't been there yet but would give those the closest look.

Question:

Is "Save" a fenced in concession(s)?

Thanks.

Yes, the Save Conservancy is fenced on its perimeter, but it is roughly 845,000 acres in size with no internal paddocks for game.

Within the perimeter are, iirc, 24 or so private holdings that are part of the Conservancy, and the game may move at its pleasure withing the entire Conservancy.

I have hunted elephant and other game there a couple of times. The elephants are very aggressive and irratable, btw. Big, but wise leopards. Some very nice riverine habitat. But, I prefer a "wilder" place.
