King Solomon's Mines on TCM
King Solomon's Mines is on tonight on TCM @ 10:00. Good story from Brian Herne's "White Hunters" - the elephant in the opening sequence was dropped by Stan Lawrence-Brown by a frontal head shot. Cast and crew posed for pictures then returned to camp. A crew was sent out to recover the ivory, but no elephant! It was apparently just stunned, and escaped - never seen again.

A nation with dogs and whiskey beats Nazis. A nation with cats and spritzers is asking to be shoved around.

The shakes are gone for a few days now. I've got my Africa fix taken care of. Watched "Safari" with Victor Mature yesterday on TCM, then I checked the mail and my copy of "The Macomber Affair" was in so I watched it,(great movie btw) tonite there is King Solomon's Mines, and right now I'm watching AFRICA with Craig Boddington. It's awful hot here in Tx but I got up at first light this morning and shot my 375. clap JC

The book by H. Rider Haggard is a good read too, actually a better story than the screenplay.

Rhyme of the Sheep Hunter
May fordings never be too deep, And alders not too thick; May rock slides never be too steep And ridges not too slick.
And may your bullets shoot as swell As Fred Bear's arrow's flew; And may your nose work just as well As Jack O'Connor's too.
May winds be never at your tail When stalking down the steep; May bears be never on your trail When packing out your sheep.
May the hundred pounds upon you Not make you break or trip; And may the plane in which you flew Await you at the strip.

Watched it last night. I love the oldies that show great film footage of animals, have a lousy story line, use asian elephants for props and the guy always gets the girl. Doesn't get any better. My favorite laugh was the croc that Deborah Kerr stepped on and Stewart Granger comes to the rescue and kills it with his side arm. Classic.

The average man's love of liberty is nine-tenths imaginary. It takes a special sort of man to understand and enjoy liberty; and he is usually an outlaw in democratic societies.

And don't forget when they had to seek cover behind the logs so as to not be trampled by the stampeding (charging!) zebra, wildebeest and gazelle. My heart was in my throat during that scene!

A most refreshing, good-for-the-soul watch!

What waterfall was that in the scene where Kerr is taking a bath?
