Zeiss V/MV DIAVARI in Africa? Experiences?
I was curious what opinion of those who have hunted Africa were on the DIavari Series from Zeiss? I am liking the 2.5-10x50 but want to make sure i am making the right decision. Anyone use these scopes in Africa? I always hear about how great the optics are but is the durability there as well?

I am not talking about this particular model for dangerous game though a 1.5-6x42 would fit the bill nicely if they are durable and dependable enough.....

What's the good word?

I would opt for the new Swarovski Z6 scope in either 1.7-10x or 2-12x. More range of magnification, LONGER eye relief, excellent glass, etc., etc.

I have a 1 3/4 x 6 that has made 6 trips to Africa plus one to Alaska and is doing just fine. I don't think you have any worries with it. That said, if I could only keep one of my scopes it would be a S&B. I like them best of all European scopes.

I did not use the Zeiss but the optic range I did use on a Leupold VX3..with German 4 insides...Low power and lots of light gathering... My opinion on optics is you get what you pay for...But did use Zeiss binos...excellent

I use Zeiss, Leopold,Swarovski,Burris and Schmidt&Bender scopes with one being the Zeiss 2.5-10x50 although a great scope my recomendation for African conditions is the Schmidt&Bender 1.5-6x42 "mag eye relief" with no;4 reticule.

I have an older 2,5-10x50: great scope, but today I would go buying a Swaro Z6, not only that it is much better, but the Zeiss are not the same from quality as the have been years ago...

life is too short for not having the best equipment You could buy...

I purchased a swaro z6 2-12 mounted it up and noticed the occular lens had alot of slop in and out after focusing. About 1/16". This seemed strange since these don't have a telescoping eye piece. Called swaro and they said it should be solid sent it back. The jury is still out on the z6 and I wouldn't trust it on a African hunt. I have 2 Zeiss 2.5-10x50 and they have performed perfectly stateside. I feel swaro does a good job advertising in the US but Zeiss and S and B make a better product for durability. Just my opinion. Look at all of the factory referbs at riflescope.com lots of swaro's.

Thanks J Stoviak

I feel S&B's probably bomb proof but unfortunately they weigh like it!
Diavari 2.5-10x50 weighs 16.2oz

S&B 3-12x50 weighs 22+oz
