LEICA ULTRAVID for Africa
Me to on the compacts. I find my 8X20 Swarovskis are great, in terms of seeing detail, I think the are so close to equaling my my 20 year old Zeiss 10x40's that they win hands down. Only advantage I see of larger glass is somewhat wider field, not worth the weight to me.

OH YES - TAKE the Swarovski EL 8,5x42 - absolutely the best in my eyes...
(more brilliant than the Leica and crisp clearer image.!!!

But do they still have the internal mold problem that I have seen in four pairs of Swaro binos and in one scope?

I agree with the majority of posters here that you can do no better than Leica. I use a pair of 10x42 Ultravids for the longer range stuff and will be buying a pair of 8x32s shortly for the thicker stuff. I went with the BL model on the 10x42 as it looks great and weighs several ozs less. The only reason I haven't yet bought the 8x32s is that I am hoping they will release a BL version of them as well.

Yes, 8x30BL would be a great set of light Bino's. thumb

As with JPK, I also use Trinnovids in 8x30 but if the 8x30 ULTRAVIDS came out in the light weight leather covering I would probably be tempted to up grade.

Up graded anyway.

OzHunter,

Was the upgrade worth it? I've been considering it.

I don't think it is necessary as the Triovids are great but there is a saving in weight and at the time the Aus $ was 97c to one US$ which was great.
Bought mine from ARs gr8fuldoug.
