Lake Kariba - Elephant & Buffalo hunting quality
Anyone have information as to the quantity and quality of elephant and buffalo around Lake Kariba? I realize that is a large area, I don't have a more specific location yet...

I hunted part of the Omay bordering Kariba last year.

I was hunting multiple tuskless. I did not hunt buff nor bull elephants.

I got my tuskless cows without problem. I saw no bull that I would have shot. I did see a lot of elephants. The bulls were small. As I understand it, the operator only offers bull hunts as a target of opportunity.

I did see buff from the lake but I never hunted them.

I've hunted Chete twice for buffalo (but I don't know if anyone other than poachers is hunting it now) and saw plenty of buffalo and quite a few elephants, bulls included, Chete is my favorite area in Zimbabwe.

Elephant and buffalo are mostly average, but if you go then you might consider a Croc. They have some monsters in that lake!

I shot a 14'2" croc in October.

As far as elephants go, don't expect anything over 35lbs and you won't be disappointed. Certain areas around Lake Kariba are better than others for buff, but again if you see something in the 36" range solid bossed - shoot it - even if it's the first day

I hunted the Omay in 2011 but was only targeting old, hard headed buffalo. I got mine on the first day but saw a couple of hundred buffalo. I also saw approximately 50 elephants over the next 6 days but all of them were cows herds or younger males.
